Clark<Adam@2812architecture.com>
Subject: RE:Stadium flowers Cooler Finals
James,
Good morning. As stated by Darla in her email response "There is no current monitoring system in the building.." and
with the separation created with the replacement of the existing roll up door for a rated door with the fusible link(as
shown on the approved permit drawings)so there was no additional requirements to modify the existing
building. Furthermore there was at no time any comment or requirement set forth for the installation of heat detectors
in the cooler box.
To address the comment regarding the leak monitor per IFC 606.8 (I have added the quoted section of code below). That
code states that "Machinery rooms shall contain a refrigerant detector..."the cooler is not a "machinery room" all of the
mechanical equipment is located out side the cooler box in open air.
606.8 Refrigerant Detector
Machinery rooms shall contain a refrigerant detector with an audible and visual alarm. The detector,or a sampling tube
that draws air to the detector, shall be located in an area where refrigerant from a leak will concentrate. The alarm shall
be actuated at a value not greater than the corresponding TLV-TWA values shown in the International Mechanical
Code for the refrigerant classification. Detectors and alarms shall be placed in approved locations. The detector shall
transmit a signal to an approved location.
They have complied to all requirements set forth in the approved permit to warrant finalization of the project and to be
able to occupy the space.
Matt Schreifels - Project Manager
2812 Architecture
0: (425) 252-2153
E: matts(a,2812architecture.com
W: www.2812architecture.com
From:James Bronder<JBronder@everettwa.gov>
Sent: Monday,July 15, 2019 11:31 AM
To: Matt Schreifels<matts@2812architecture.com>
Cc: Pete Gaffney<pete.gaffney@gaffneyconstructioninc.com>; Darla Van Winkle<Darla@stadiumflowers.com>
Subject: RE:Stadium flowers Cooler Finals
Hi Matt,
I talked to the Fire Department and Fire Marshal last week. The Fire Department is concerned about the proposed
cooler not having a means of detecting fire in that area as well as having a refrigerant leakage. As a result, the Fire
Department is requiring that a leak monitor for the refrigerant per IFC 606.8 and a heat detector be installed and wired
to the existing fire alarm in the existing building.
Thank you,
3I
