Section 4. Noncombustible Substructures. Section 5. Combustible Substructure s. A combustible substructure is a substructure that does not comply with the fire resistance rating of "fire-resistive" or "noncombustible" substructure as defined in this ordinance and shall meet the following specific re;uirements: A. Piles and Stiffening Members. The combustible substructures may be of wood piles extending to the pier deck. Stiffening of the piling shall be by the use of inclined bracing, piles or cross braces of timber of not less than four-inch nominal dimension and 32 square inches minimum cross sectlone_l. area. The cross bracing shell he so designed as to offer the minimum surface exposed to fire end the smellest possible obstruction to the distribution of water in fighting fires under the pier deck. B. Pier Deck and Sunnorts.
