Noncombustible Substructures. <br /> A noncomieuetible substructure shelf be one having a fire resistance <br /> rating in :.11 of its parts of not less than four (4) hours with the exception of <br /> structural steel, steel piles or reinforced concrete end shall comply with the <br /> following specific requirementst <br /> A. Pier Deck. <br /> Pier decks of noncombustible substructures shall be reinforced <br /> concrete or equivalent construction to afford _: four (4) hour fire <br /> resistance rating. here railroad tracks or other depressed areas are <br /> run onto the pier deck and are at a lower level than the deck, the sides and <br /> bottom of the depressed section shall he of the same construction as the <br /> pier deck or of equivalent fire resistance rating. <br /> • <br /> Pier aprons or platforms of noncombustible substructures built elon g <br /> the sides or ends of the pier shall have the substructures and deck <br /> constricted so as to have fire resistance rating equel to that of the pier <br /> substructure and deck. <br /> Section 5. Combustible Substructure s. <br /> A combustible substructure is a substructure that does not comply with <br /> the fire resistance rating of "fire-resistive" or "noncombustible" substructure <br /> as defined in this ordinance and shall meet the following specific re;uirements: <br /> A. Piles and Stiffening Members. <br /> The combustible substructures may be of wood piles extending to the <br /> pier deck. Stiffening of the piling shall be by the use of inclined bracing, <br /> piles or cross braces of timber of not less than four-inch nominal <br /> dimension and 32 square inches minimum cross sectlone_l. area. The <br /> cross bracing shell he so designed as to offer the minimum surface exposed <br /> to fire end the smellest possible obstruction to the distribution of water in <br /> fighting fires under the pier deck. <br /> B. Pier Deck and Sunnorts. <br /> Pile ceps of e combustible substructure shall consist of sawed timber <br /> not less than eight-inch nominal minimum dimension end 96 seuare inches <br /> minimum cross-sectional area, and the deck stringers of not less than <br /> six-inch nominal minimum dimension.and 72 s a.u.are inches minimum cross <br /> section area. Deck planking on stringers shall be not less than four inches <br /> • in thickness. <br /> Pier decks of a combustible substructure without superstructure may <br /> have deck plinda; of net less then three inches in thickness. <br /> Ordinance -3- <br />
