• <br /> E. Underdeck. <br /> • <br /> All substructures of combustible construction shall have the under- <br /> deck area subdivided by: <br /> I. Transverse fire walls at intervals not exceeding 450 feet. Such <br /> walls shall constitute a continuation of the fire walls in the super- <br /> structure and the maximum areas under such spacing shall not <br /> exceed 50, 000 square feet. Walls shall be free of holes and shall <br /> extend to low water line. Where aprons or platforms are built <br /> along the sides of the pier, fire walls shall extend to the outside <br /> edge of such platforms, said substructure fire walls shall have a <br /> fire resistance rating of at least four (4) hours. <br /> II. Transverse fire stops shall be located between fire walls. <br /> Spacing between fire walls and fire stops or between fire stops <br /> shall not exceed 150 feet. Fire stops shall fit tightly up against <br /> the pier deck and around any structural members or pipes that <br /> pass through the fire stop so that an effective barrier to fire and <br /> draft will be maintained. Fire stops shall extend to low water line. <br /> Where aprons or platforms are built along the sides of the pier, <br /> fire stops shall extend to the outside edge of the platforms or <br /> aprons. Said substructure fire stops shall be constructed of six <br /> (6) inches of reinforced concrete or they may be of wood planking <br /> built up to a thickness of four (4) inches and securely fastened to <br /> the piles, or of steel plate - inch thick or other construction <br /> approved by the Chief of the Fire Department, provided that each <br /> side of wood or exposed metal fire stops are protected by automatic <br /> sprinklers or by openings in the pier deck through which revolving <br /> nozzles and other devices may be used to form an effective water <br /> curtain. <br /> F. Catwalks. <br /> There shall be maintained under each pier of a combustible sub- <br /> structure, catwalks for the use of firemen, and they shall comply with the <br /> following requirements: <br /> I. Catwalks shall he placed only under piers and wharves where <br /> there is at least five (5) feet from bottom of pier to high water. <br /> II. Catwalks shall be placed at least four (4) feet from the bottom <br /> of the pier or wharf, and be at least two (2) feet wide. <br /> III. There shall be one catwalk for each 50 feet of pier or wharf <br /> width. <br /> IV. There shall be manholes on each side of fire walls and fire <br /> stops for access to the catwalks. <br /> Sectio: 6. Fire-Resistive Funerstructures. <br /> Fire-resistive superstructures, as defined in this ordinance, shall be <br /> of four (4) hour fire-resistive construction throughout and shall comply with <br /> the following specific requirements: <br /> Ordinance -5- <br />
