Letter to Nancy Johnson
November 13, 2000
Page 2
The varience procedure will requiro a parlcing study that will eddross your
particular and unique circumstanoes. These mey indude: the nature and
arcumatanoes of your usage, the daiy museum use and hous of operadon vis-
A-vis downtown peak traffic and perking demand, the average vehide
occupancy, and structural issuas associated with parking on the roof of the
building. These matters, as well as othera, should be reviewed to detertnine your
parking needs and inform your requea: for a palcing variance.
I have discussed the Museum's needs witl the City's Tratfic Engineer, Weyne
Wentz, and Bob Lendles, Land Uae Menegsr for our Departrnent. We balieve
that the Museum's parking needs may be able to ba mat by using some part of
the roof parking area. However, it this roof aroe cennot be used for some
reasons including structural or load adess problems, a modiflcatlon may be
jusfied on the basis of the parking atudy. If the study aupports a modificabon to
parking, and we beeve there is evidence that it may, then we would be prepared
to support a request to modify parking requirements before tha Board of
Adjustrnent. Of course, the Board is an independent body, free to make its own
decision independent of your requast or our recommendaUons.
We are prepared to work with the Museum to address these issues in a manner
that will provide the Museum and the City with a satisfadory response. We look
forvvard to workinp with you to address these issues. Please adviae ua as to how
you wish to proceed by calling Mr. Landles or myself at 425-257-8731, or Mr.
Wentz at 25-257-8923.
I hope this information is of some assistance to you.
Sincerely,
"" `
Paul erts
Director
c.
