Payment, in both cases above provided, shall be in addition <br /> to his or her regular pay. <br /> All day laborers who shall be directed by the head of their department or duly <br /> authorized supervisor to work more than eight hours in any one day, or more than <br /> forty hours in any calendar week or on any day that is designated as a legal <br /> holiday in the State of Washington, except Sundays, shall be paid for such overtime <br /> work, or work on such holidays, at an hourly rate equal to one and one-half times <br /> the daily wage divided by eight. <br /> This chapter and section shall not apply to heads of departments who are not <br /> covered by Civil Service in connection with their employment. For the purpose of this section holidays <br /> shall be considered as those days hereinafter set forth and designated by specific <br /> calendar days : <br /> New Years Day, January 1. <br /> Lincoln's Birthday, February 12. <br /> George Washington's Birthday, February 22. <br /> Memorial Day, May 30. <br /> July 4 <br /> Labor Day, first Monday in September. <br /> Columbus Day, October 12. <br /> Veterans Day, November 11. <br /> Thanksgiving Day, fourth Thursday in November. <br /> Christmas Day, December 25. <br /> General Election Day. <br /> Any Fireman, except the Chief of the Fire Department, who shall commence or end <br /> his regular shift of work on any of the holidays hereinabove designated, shall be <br /> entitled to pay, in addition to his regular monthly pay, for each hour of work <br /> performed during the day, a sum equal to one twenty-first of his monthly salary <br /> based on an eight hour work day, 40 hour work week. 7 <br /> Any Policeman, except the Chief of the Police Department, who shall commence his <br /> regular shift of work on a legal holiday hereinabove designated and shall complete <br /> his eight hours of work, whether on said day or on the following day, shall be <br /> entitled, in addition to his monthly pay, to a sum equal to one twenty-first of his <br /> monthly salary. <br /> Any policeman commencing his regular shift on a day other than a legal holiday and <br /> finishing his shift on, a holiday shall receive no additional compensation.
