He also said,according <br /> to State law,the City could charge up to 508 of the appraised value. <br /> Councilman Pope said that the City wouldn't be giving away propertY,bnt. <br /> would realize real estate taxes from the property once it was improved by . <br /> the original owners. • . <br /> Councilman Baker asked if the City's ownership in the property was in the <br /> form of an easement,and Mr.Cattle replied that it was. • <br /> • <br /> Councilman Michelson said that the State took into consideration certain <br /> rights of property owners, that vacated and surplus ProPertY are not <br /> treated alike. Surplus property requires a call for tkd,and anyone can <br /> bid and then buy it. Vacated property has conditions to protect adjoining • <br /> property owners: I)does not have to pay more than 508 of the appraised <br /> value,and 2)only the original property owners can acquire it. <br /> Councilman Baker felt that vacations are beneficial to the citizens of <br /> Everett,particularly when tax revenues become available to the citizens <br /> by property being placed back on tax rolls. She asked what haPPens when <br /> we vacate property to an owner who is tax-exempt from property tax.
