r - , • • • • ORDINANCE NO. 3697 AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A BUREAU OF FIRE PREVENTION; PRESCRIBING REGULATIONS GOVERNING CON- DITIONS HAZARDOUS TO LIFE AND PROPERTY FROM FIRE OR EXPLOSION; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION BY REFERENCE OF THE SUGGESTED FIRE PREVENTION CODE OF THE NATIONAL BOARD OF FIRE UNDERWRITERS, 1976 EDITION; AMENDING SECTIONS 1.05 and 1.06 THEREOF; SUPER- SEDING ORDINANCE NO. 3414; AND REPEALING ORDINANCE NOS. 25, 1183, 1275, 1494, 1597 and 1631. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN: Section 1 : That the 1956 Edition of the Suggested Fire Prevention Code recommended by the National Board of Fire Underwriters is hereby adopted by reference, subject to amend- ment of Sections 1.05 and 1.06 thereof, as provided by R.C.W. 35.21. 180, as an ordinance of the City of Everett, and that no less than three copies of said Suggested Fire Prevention Code have been and shall be on file for the use and examination of the public in the office of the City Clerk of the City of Everett. Section 2: That Section 1.05 of the Suggested Fire Prevention Code recommended by the National Board of Fire Underwriters, 1956 Edition, is hereby amended to read as follows : Section 1.05. Dangerous buildings or places defined and declared to be a nuisance, and standards of repair and correction or demolition. All buildings, structures, premises, places and yards which have any or all of the following conditions, shall be deemed dangerous buildings or places and are hereby declared to be a nuisance and shall be repaired, correct- ed, vacated, removed or demolished as hereinafter provided: (a) Dangerous or unlawful amounts of combustible or explosive or otherwise hazardous material; (b) Hazardous conditions arising from defective or improperly installed equipment for handling or using combustible or explosive or otherwise hazardous materials; (c) Dangerous accumulations or rubbish, waste paper, boxes, shavings, underbrush or other highly flammable materials; (d) Accumulations of dust or waste material in air conditioning or ventilator systems or grease in kitchen or other exhaust ducts; (e) Obstructions to or on fire escapes, stairs or passageways, doors or windows, liable to inter- fere with the operations of the fire department or egress of the occupants in case of fire; (f) Any building or structure which by reason of age or dilapidated condition or for want of repair is especially liable to fire or spread of fire;
