RESOLUTION NO. 5398 <br /> A RESOLUTION authorizing special fare media for patrons of the <br /> Everett Senior Center. <br /> WHEREAS, the Everett Senior Center, a gathering place for life enhancing activities, <br /> provides a vital service to our senior citizens; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Everett Senior Center, located at the corner of Pacific and Lombard, <br /> has traditionally relied upon on-street parking and thirty-nine (39) off-street parking <br /> stalls to serve over three hundred (300) daily visitors to the center; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Snohomish County Government is undergoing a significant campus <br /> re-development in downtown Everett, estimated to be complete in fall of 2004; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Everett Events Center generates activity requiring on-street parking <br /> adjacent to the Everett Senior Center; and <br /> WHEREAS, EVERETT TRANSIT operates a public transit system for routed bus <br /> service, and para-transit service; and <br /> WHEREAS, EVERETT TRANSIT, as stated in its mission statement, is charged with <br /> helping "local governments manage anticipated Snohomish County growth in a <br /> manner that minimizes the negative environmental and social consequences"; and <br /> WHEREAS, EVERETT TRANSIT operates Everett Station, a multi-modal regional <br /> transportation center with spaces for over seven hundred parked vehicles; and <br /> WHEREAS, EVERETT TRANSIT fixed route services provide frequent trips between the <br /> Everett Senior Center and Everett Station; and <br /> WHEREAS, senior citizens, age sixty-two and over, may currently ride EVERETT <br /> TRANSIT fixed route services without paying a fare, Monday through Friday, between <br /> the hours of 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM; and <br /> WHEREAS, increasing the fare free provision for seniors for trips on all EVERETT <br /> TRANSIT services between the Everett Senior Center and Everett Station is believed to <br /> encourage the use of Everett Transit services and mitigate parking concerns at and <br /> near the Everett Senior Center; <br />
