El/E/2ETT <br /> RESOLUTION 6391 <br /> A Resolution in Support of a National Maritime Heritage Area in Western <br /> Washington, <br /> Including Portions of the City of Everett <br /> WHEREAS, the Washington State Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation has <br /> prepared a feasibility study that recommends inclusion of portions of the city of Everett in a <br /> proposed Washington State National Maritime Heritage Area; and <br /> WHEREAS,National Heritage Areas are designated to recognize and support the best examples <br /> of our nation's cultural and historic heritage and to promote economic development and <br /> preservation of our nation's heritage; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Everett is committed to the preservation, enhancement and promotion <br /> of its historic, cultural and natural resources for the benefit of its residents and visitors; and <br /> WHEREAS, Everett's historic resources, along with its natural marine setting, are major <br /> strategic assets that should be enhanced and leveraged economically for the benefit of its <br /> residents; and <br /> WHEREAS, increased heritage tourism will provide long-term economic opportunities for local <br /> businesses, while honoring Everett's heritage; and <br /> WHEREAS, increased heritage tourism planning and coordination between Everett and other <br /> organizations and jurisdictions will lead to the enhanced protection, richer interpretation, and <br /> stronger promotion of these historic resources; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Port of Everett supports the proposed Washington State National Maritime <br /> Heritage Area; and <br /> WHEREAS, the National Maritime Heritage Area will not affect local control over land use, <br /> increase federal regulation, create a new agency or impose new financial burdens on the city; and <br />
