Keen
Darden Restaurants, Inc.
Design and Construction C'--C'
1000 Darden Center Drive
Orlando, Florida 32837
Subject: Geotechnical Engineering Services Report
Proposed Olive Garden Restaurant
Everett Mall
Everett, Washington
PSI Project No. 712480-1
Dear Mr. Keen:
Professional Service Industries, Inc. (PSI) has completed a subsurFace exploration program at the
above referenced project site. The proposed restaurant is located in the northern parking lot of
the Everett Mall which has an address of 1402 SE Everett Mall Way in Everett, Snohomish
County, Washington as shown on the Vicinity Map, Figure 1. The subsurface exploration was
conducted to provide information needed for recommendations for site preparation and foundation
design and construction for the referenced restaurant. The services herein were completed in
general accordance with "Technical Consulting Services AgreemenY' dated May 18, 1999
between Darden and PSI. The following report presents the results of the study, as well as
opinions and recommendations pertaining to the geotechnical aspects of the project.
1.0 PROJECT INFORMATION
1.1 Site Location and Proiect Description
The Site Exploration Plan, Figure 2, shows the layout of the proposed restaurant. PSI has been
provided with a site plan prepared by GHA Architecture/Development.
PSI understands that the proposed Olive Garden restaurant will consist of a wood framed one-
story building supported on conventional concrete foundations. The structure may have some
exterior masonry, and there will be a concrete slab-on-grade. PSI anticipates that foundation
loads will be approximately 1 to 3 kips per linear foot for strip footings, and that column loads will
be as high as 50 to 75 kips. We understand that new pavements will not be constructed as part of
this development.
We expect that site grading will include cuts or fills of less than 2 feet. Please notify us if the
design loads or site grading will be different from that assumed so that we can re-evaluate and
modify our recommendations, if needed.
The information presented in this section was used in the evaluation. Estimated loads and
corresponding foundation sizes have a direct affect on the recommendations, including the type of
foundation, the allowable bearing pressure, and the estimated settlement. In addition, estimated
subgrade elevations and cut/fill depths also have a direct affect on the provided recommendations.
Prolcssional Senice IndusUics_Inc..24113—G°i Avenue West_Mountlake'Ierracc.Wn 98043.Phonr 42S/24&2400.Iaa 425/248-2401
