I <br /> 1 1 <br /> 2 The Contractor shall anchor the live brush mattress to the slope using stakes and <br /> I 3 jute rope as shown in the Plans. Initially, the stakes shall be installed to protrude <br /> 4 above the live brush mattress. The Contractor shall attach the jute rope to the <br /> 5 stakes and tighten the rope by tamping the stakes further into the bank, pulling the <br /> I 6 live brush mattress tight against the soil surface. The Contractor shall cover the <br /> 7 live brush mattress with sufficient stockpiled topsoil to ensure good soil contact <br /> 8 with the live plant material. <br /> 9 <br /> I10 Plant replacement during plant establishment for "PSIPE Live Brush Mattress" will <br /> 11 be required for any section void of live shoots for an area of 25 square feet or <br /> 12 more. Replacement shall consist of installing live stakes, spaced 3 feet apart in a <br /> I 13 triangular pattern within the area void of live shoots. Live stakes shall be of the <br /> 14 same species as the live brush mattress and shall have a minimum length of 3 <br /> 15 feet and a minimum diameter of 3/4 inch. The requirements of Section 8-02.3(8) <br /> I 16 apply to PSIPE Brush Mattress. <br /> 17 <br /> 18 8-02.3(15)C Brush Layer <br /> 19 Brush layers shall be constructed of live branch cuttings, randomly mixed, from <br /> I20 the plant species listed under the brush layer heading in the Plans. The number <br /> 21 of branches required will vary depending on the average branch diameter and <br /> 22 layer thickness. <br /> I 23 <br /> 24 Brush layers shall be placed in a trench dug at a 45 degree incline into the slope <br /> 25 or stream bank. Two-thirds to three-fourths of the length of the live branches shall <br /> I 26 be buried. Soil shall be firmly tamped in place. Succeeding layers shall be spaced <br /> 27 as detailed in the Plans. Brush layer placed in stream banks shall be angled <br /> 28 downstream. <br /> 29 <br /> I30 Brush layers may include plant establishment when designated as PSIPE Brush <br /> 31 Layer. Plant replacement for PSIPE Brush Layer will be required for each section <br /> 32 void of live shoots for a continuous distance of 3 feet or more. The requirements of <br /> I 33 Section 8-02.3(8) apply to PSIPE Brush Layer. <br /> 34 <br /> 35 8-02.3(16) Roadside Maintenance Under Construction <br /> I 36 When the Contract includes the item, Roadside Maintenance Under Construction, this <br /> 37 Work includes roadside mowing and ditch maintenance, and noxious weed control <br /> 38 outside of planting areas according to Section 8-02.3(3)C. <br /> 39 <br /> I40 8-02.3(16)A Roadside Mowing <br /> 41 The Contractor shall mow designated roadside grass areas to the limits <br /> 42 designated by the Engineer. Roadside mowing is limited to slopes not steeper <br /> I 43 than 3(H) to 1(V). <br /> 44 <br /> 45 The Contractor shall mow according to the following requirements: <br /> I 46 <br /> 47 1. Trim around traffic equipment, structures, planting areas, or other <br /> 48 features extending above ground preceding or simultaneously with each <br /> 49 mowing. <br /> 50 <br /> 51 2.
