1 <br /> 1 Coating Field 6-07.3(10)N Application Methods <br /> 2 The third sentence is revised to read: <br /> 3 1 4 The Contractor may apply stripe coat paint using spray or brush but shall follow spray <br /> 5 application using a brush to ensure complete coverage around structural geometric <br /> 6 irregularities and to push the paint into gaps between existing steel surfaces and around <br /> 7 rivets and bolts. <br /> 8 <br /> 9 6-07.3(10)0 Applying Field Coatings <br /> 10 The second to last paragraph is revised to read: <br /> 11 <br /> 12 Each application of primer, primer stripe, intermediate, intermediate stripe, and top coat <br /> 13 shall be considered as separately applied coats. The Contractor shall not use a preceding <br /> 14 or subsequent coat to remedy a deficiency in another coat. The Contractor shall apply the <br /> 15 top coat to at least the minimum specified top coat thickness, to provide a uniform <br /> 16 appearance and consistent finish coverage. I 17 <br /> 18 6-07.3(10)P Field Coating Repair <br /> 19 The second sentence is revised to read: <br /> 20 <br /> 21 Repair areas shall be cleaned of all damaged paint and the system reapplied using all <br /> 22 coats typical to the paint system and shall meet the minimum coating thickness. <br /> 23 <br /> 24 6-07.3(11)A Painting of Galvanized Surfaces <br /> 25 This section is revised to read: <br /> 26 1 27 All galvanized surfaces receiving paint shall be prepared for painting in accordance with the <br /> 28 ASTM D 6386. The method of preparation shall be brush-off in accordance with SSPC- <br /> 29 SP16 Brush-Off Blast Cleaning of Coated and Uncoated Galvanized Steel, Stainless Steels, <br /> 30 and Non-Ferrous Metals or as otherwise allowed by the Engineer. The Contractor shall not <br /> 31 begin painting until receiving the Engineer's acceptance of the prepared galvanized <br /> 32 surface. For galvanized bolts used for replacement of deteriorated existing rivets, the <br /> 33 Contractor, with the concurrence of the Engineer and after successful demonstration <br /> 34 testing, may prepare galvanized surfaces in accordance with SSPC-SP1 followed by <br /> 35 SSPC-SP2, Hand Tool Cleaning or SSPC-SP3, Power Tool Cleaning. The demonstration <br /> 36 testing shall include adhesion testing of the first coat of paint over galvanized bolts, nuts, <br /> 37 and washers or a representative galvanized surface. Adhesion testing shall be performed in <br /> 38 accordance with ASTM D 4541 for 600 psi minimum adhesion. A minimum of 3 successful <br /> 39 tests shall be performed on the galvanized surface prepared and painted using the same <br /> 40 methods and materials to be used on the galvanized bolts, nuts and washers in the field. <br /> 41 <br /> 42 6-07.3(11)A2 Paint Coat Materials <br /> 43 This section is revised to read: <br /> 44 <br /> 45 The Contractor shall paint the dry surface as follows: <br /> 46 <br /> III <br /> 47 1. The first coat over a galvanized surface shall be an epoxy polyimide conforming <br /> 48 to Section 9-08.1(2)E .
