East of the summit of the Cascade Range, seed <br /> 13 and fertilizer shall be applied in a single application followed by the application <br /> 14 of mulch. <br /> 151 <br /> 16 8-02.3(11)B Bark or Woodchip Mulch <br /> 17 The Contractor shall apply bark or wood chip mulch of the type and depth <br /> 18 specified where shown in the Plans or as specified in the Special Provisions. I 19 <br /> 20 The Contractor shall complete final grading and placement/incorporation of soil <br /> 21 amendments within the planting area prior to placement of mulch. Areas <br /> 22 receiving bark mulch shall be bare soil or vegetation free before application, <br /> 23 except where trees and other plants are specifically identified in the Plans or <br /> 24 designated by the Engineer to be saved and protected. <br /> 25 <br /> 26 Bark or wood chip mulch shall be placed to a uniform non-compacted depth of 3 <br /> 27 inches over all planting areas unless otherwise specified. Mulch shall be <br /> 28 feathered to the base of the plant and 1 inch below the top of junction and valve <br /> I <br /> 29 boxes, curbs, and pavement edges. <br /> 30 <br /> 31 Any contamination of the mulch due to the Contractors operations shall be I 32 corrected to its former condition at no additional cost to the Contracting Agency. <br /> 33 Mulch placed to a thickness greater than specified shall be at no additional cost <br /> 34 to the Contracting Agency. <br /> 35111 <br /> 36 The Contractor shall keep plant material crowns, runners, and branches free of <br /> 37 mulch at all times. <br /> 38111 39 8-02.3(11)C Bark or Woodchip Mulch Rings <br /> 40 The Contractor shall apply mulch rings around plants installed within existing <br /> 41 vegetation areas or within seeded areas as shown in the Plans. Bark or wood <br /> 42 chip mulch rings shall be applied to the surface of vegetation free amended soil <br /> 43 in the isolated plant locations where shown in the Plans or as specified in the <br /> 44 Special Provisions. Bark or wood chip mulch shall be placed to a uniform non- ' <br /> 45 compacted depth of 3 inches to a radius of 2 feet around all plants within <br /> 46 interplanted plant locations. <br /> 47 <br /> 48 8-02.3(12) Completion of Initial Planting <br /> 49 Upon completion of the initial planting within a designated area, the Engineer will <br /> 50 make an inspection of all planting areas.
