I <br /> 2 All automatic irrigation systems shall be operated fully automatic during the plant <br /> I <br /> 3 establishment period and until final acceptance of the Contract. Payment for water <br /> 4 used to water in plants, or hand watering of plant material or lawn areas unless <br /> I <br /> 5 otherwise specified, is the responsibility of the Contractor during the first-year plant <br /> 6 establishment period. <br /> 7 <br /> 8 Subsequent year plant establishment periods shall begin immediately at the <br /> 9 completion of the preceding year's plant establishment period. Each subsequent <br /> 10 plant establishment period shall be one full calendar year in duration. <br /> 11 I 12 During the plant establishment period(s) after the first year plant establishment, the <br /> 13 Work necessary for the continued healthy and vigorous growth of all plants material <br /> 14 shall be performed as directed by the Engineer. <br /> 15 <br /> 16 Payment for water used to water plants during the subsequent year(s) of plant <br /> 17 establishment will be paid under the plant establishment item. <br /> 18 <br /> 19 8-02.3(14) Plant Replacement <br /> 20 The Contractor shall be responsible for growing or arrange to provide sufficient plants <br /> 21 for replacement of all plant material rejected through first-year plant establishment. <br /> 22 All replacement plant material shall be inspected and accepted by the Engineer prior <br /> 23 to installation. All rejected plant material shall be replaced with acceptable plants <br /> 24 meeting the specifications and installed according to the requirements of this Section <br /> 25 at dates allowed by the Engineer. <br /> 26 <br /> 27 All replacement plants shall be of the same species as the plants they replace and <br /> 28 meet the requirements of Section 9-14.8 unless otherwise allowed by the Engineer. <br /> 29 Plants may vary in size reflecting one season of growth should the Contractor elect <br /> 30 to hold plant material under nursery conditions for an additional year to serve as <br /> 31 replacement plants. Replacement plant material larger than specified in the Plans <br /> 32 shall meet the applicable section requirements of the ASNS for container class, ball <br /> 33 size, spread, and branching characteristics. <br /> 34 <br /> 35 8-02.3(15) Bioengineering111 <br /> 36 Bioengineering consists of using plant materials for the purpose of streambank or <br /> 37 earthen slope construction and surface stabilization. This Work may include installing <br /> 38 woody plant cuttings in various forms as well as part of streambank or earthen slope ' <br /> 39 construction. <br /> 40 <br /> 41 8-02.3(15)A Fascines <br /> 42 Live fascines shall be constructed of live and dead cuttings bundled together with <br /> 43 a diameter of 8 to 18 inches. Live cuttings shall be the species shown in the <br /> 44 Plans. Dead branches may be cuttings from any woody, non-invasive plant 11145 native to the project area. Dead branches may be placed within the live fascine <br /> 46 and on the side exposed to the air. Live branches shall be placed in contact with <br /> 47 the soil along their entire length. Each live fascine must contain a minimum of <br /> 48 eight live branches. Dead branches shall constitute no more than 40 percent of <br /> 49 the total fascine content. <br /> 50 <br /> 51 The total length of each live fascine shall be a minimum of 5 feet.
