The
natural slope of the land is slightly to the southwest. Cut and fill activities
have modified the property considerably; in particular; a thick wedge of fill
covers the southrest corner of the property.
At present we understand the project includes two buildings located as shown on
the site map.. The northeast liuilding is a four-story metal frame structure with •
a daylight basement requiriny a 4-foot excaVation. The southwest building is a
two-story. metal frame. slab-on-grade structure. Discussions with Ron Gregory.
from Harmon and Associates during our exploration, indicate they may wish to
change the location of the southwest building, to take advantage of more
favorable foundat'ion soils conditions.
In the event that any changes in the nature. design. or location of the
structures are planned the conclusions and recommendations contained in this
report should be revi-ewed and modified as necessary to reflect those changes.
3.0 SUBSURfACE EXPLORATION
Field explorations, for this project were completed on 12 April 1985. The
subsurface exploration consisted of excavating a total of 14 test pits with a
rubber-tired backhoe supplied by James Bakke, Inc. The locations for the test
pits as shown in Fiyure 1. were determined by pacing and visual orientation from
surroundin9 buildings. Steve Miller from James Bakke. Inc. indicated he would
return with a tape
measure to locate the test pits more accurately. The test pits ranged in depth •..
from 3.5 to 10.5 feet and facilitated a direct visual observation of the
subsurface soil conditions. Soils eniountered dur•ing the field study were
visually classified and logged by an engineering geologist from our office.
Observed ground water conditions were also recorded.
Interpretive logs of the subsurface materials and conditions encountered in the
test pits are presented in Appendix A of this report.
