J GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING STUDY
Mr. Arthur Skotdal E-6225
_ c/o Dykeman Architects Page 5
July 27, 1933
This report has been prepared for specific application to this project only and in a manner
consistent with that level of care and skill ordinarily exercised by other members of the
profession currently practicing under similar conditions in this area for the exciusive use
of The Pacific Institute and their representatives. No warranty, expressed or implied, is
^ made. This report, in its entirety, should be included in the project contract documents
for the information of the contractor.
,
es o rs,,., d Gwnerl Earthwork
The building area should be stripped and cieared of all existing structures and foundations,
rubble, and any other deleterious material. Stripped materials should not be mixed with
any materials to be used as structural fill. However, brick, concrete, and asphalt rubble
-• broken down to six inches in diameter or fess may be used as structural fill if approved
and observed by ECI during placement.
` If abandoned utility pipes are encountered during construction, they should be plugged or
removed so that they do not provide a conduit for groundwater seepage and cause sail
saturation and stability problems.
' To achieve design subgrade elevations, excavations ranging from (11) to fourteen (14)
feet deep will be required on the on the west side of the site, and fifteen (15► to
i eighteen (18) feet on the east side of the site. It appears feasible to slope the propused
excavation back, and temporary shoring will not be required.
) To echieve the proposed street grade parking area will require approximately ten (10) feet
of structural fill placement. Therefore, excavated soil fram the building area can be used
I as structural fill for the parking area, provided near optimum soil maisture levels can be
maintained. To prevent the build up ofgrouP ac ne an11 fi I tlf the slab sfnlot b okentup,
= concrete slab should be broken up p ' 9 Y
,. ;, groundwater infiltrating into the new fill may build up under the parking area over a long
period.
r,_ I
,

I
i
Earth Consultants, Inc.
l
