FTO &Probation: Once selected and appointed to the SWAT team, new tactical <br /> • <br /> team members must successfully complete SWAT basic training(Outlined in <br /> section VI of this manual) and the designated SWAT training program. This <br /> program shall last between 6 and 12 months. If the probationary team member <br /> completes the training program then he shall be designated a permanent team <br /> member. <br /> B. Hostage Negotiators-Qualifications will be the same as for tactical personnel with the <br /> exception of the physical fitness and firearms proficiency. <br /> C. Logistical Support Personnel- Qualifications will be the same as for tactical personnel <br /> with the exception of the physical fitness and firearms proficiency. <br /> D. Terms of Appointment-The length of appointment to the SWAT team is at the discretion <br /> of the Chief of Police or Sheriff. Failure to maintain required standards, attend training as <br /> scheduled(without excuse) or any other deficiency in performance that indicates a lack of <br /> skill,judgment or team orientation can be cause for immediate suspension or removal <br /> from the team. Any action with regard to suspension or removal from the team shall be <br /> the responsibility of the SWAT Director. The SWAT Commander shall provide a full <br /> report to the SWAT Director with a recommendation and supporting documentation. <br /> E Leave of Absence—With the approval of the SWAT Commander, any team member in <br /> good standing may be granted a leave of absence up to onme hundred and eighty(180) <br /> days. <br /> 1. During any leave of absence, a member shall be placed on inactive status and <br /> suspended from participating in tactical missions. <br /> 2. Normally,no more than one(1)team member shall be allowed a leave of absence <br /> at any one time. <br /> 3. Upon return,the member shall be required to pass the physical fitness standards <br /> and the firearms proficiency test prior to full reinstatement to the team. Members <br /> who take an extended leave of absence may also be evaluated for operational <br /> readiness. <br /> F. Medical Leave <br /> 1. A team member who is unavailable due to extended illness or injury shall be <br /> placed on inactive status until re-instated by their agency. <br /> 2. If an illness, injury, or other circumstance requires a leave of absence longer than <br /> sixty (60) days,the member will be required to meet the physical fitness standards <br /> and firearms proficiency requirements prior to full reinstatement to the team. <br /> Revised 12/2013 12 <br /> 33 <br />
