12. The International Fire Code requires that all new structures shall provide Fire Department access roads <br /> tc within 150 feet exterior walking distance of all portions of the ground floor. Fire Department access <br /> roads (Fire Lanes) shall provide a minimum of 20 feet in width of unobstructed, paved driving surface <br /> with a minin�um clear height of 13'6". Inside tum radii must be 35 feet. Slope approach and departure <br /> angles must not exceed 10 degrees. Fire la;�e grade must not exceed 15 percent. Fire lane <br /> construction must comply wilh AASHTO ti3J load capacity. Fire Lanes will be posted and maintained <br /> as required by the Fire Department. UnoRiiodox access which meets code requirements but is too <br /> unusual for crews will not be aliowed. <br /> 13. When access to or wilhin a structure or an area is unduly difficult because of secured openings or where <br /> immediate access is r.ecessary for life saving or(ire-figl�ting purposes, the Fire Department may <br /> recommend or require a key box to be installed in an accessible location. A rapid entry system may <br /> also be desireble in order to avoid unnecessary damage whil� rr;�king entry to any buiiding during an <br /> emergency siluation. <br /> Please call (425) 257-81?_3 for further information. <br /> 14. A Knox Box is required. <br /> 15. Fire apparatus access roads shall be marked whene�ier necessary to maintain lhe unobstructed <br /> ml,�imum required width of readways. Fire lanes shall be marked as follows: <br /> a. Curbs shail he identified by red traffic paint with a 6-inch w•ide stripe on the top and front, extending <br /> the length o(lhe designated fire lane. <br /> b. Rolled curbs shall be identified by red traf(ic paint with a 6-inch wide stripe on the curb, extending <br /> the length of the designated fire lane. <br /> c. Lanes without curbs shail be identified by red tra`fic paint wilh a 6-inch wide stripe on the pavement, <br /> extending the length of lhe designaled fire lane. <br /> d. The words 'NO PARKING - FIRE LANE' shall be in 3-inch slroke white letters 18 inches in he;�ht, <br /> and placed 8 inches measured perpendicular from the red paint stripe on the pavement. In most <br /> cases, both sides of the access road shall be marked. Where lor�g drives are to be marked, lhe <br /> repetitions sl�all alternate sides of the drive. <br /> e. Marking shall also include the addition of inetal signs stating 'NO PARKING - FIRE LANE-TOW <br /> AWAY ZONG' to be installed at inlervals or locations designated by the Fire Code Official. The signs <br /> shall be approximately 12 inches in width and 18 inches in height and have red letters on a white <br /> background. Metal signs shall be installed on either 2-inch metal pipes for private property or <br /> treated 4-inch by A-inch wood posts for public property and shall be localed so that the bottom of the <br /> sign is a minimum of 7 feet above the curb. Where fire lanes aro adjacent to buildings or strvctures <br /> and when approved or direcled by lhe Fire Code Official, the signs may be placed on the face of the <br /> building or structure. <br /> f. Where directed by the Fire Code O(fcial, specific areas shall be designated and those areas are to <br /> be marked with diagonal striping across the width of the fire lane. Diagonal marking shall be used in <br /> conjunction with painted curbs ancllor edge striping and shall run at an angle of 30 te GO degrees <br /> (rom one side to the other. These diagonal lines shall be in red fraf(ic paint, parallel with each other, <br /> al least 6 inches in width and 24 inches apart. Leltering shall appear as above. <br /> 16. Fire ilow for this project is 1,500 gpm. <br /> 17.A portable fre extinguisher wilh a minimum U.L. raling of 2-A:10-B:C shall be provided within 75 feet of <br /> travel on all floors of each building during construclion and prior to occupancy. <br /> / <br /> `�S <br />
