kitchen but have not been able to inspect the interior. All parties indicate the main floor is occupied by the primary
tenant and the upper level is occupied as a separate apartment with its own kitchen. There is another structure/dwelling
unit on the parcel near the alley(known as 1918% Baker or 1918 Baker B).
Previously working on this case-Steve told me 1918 Baker could not be a duplex-in part due to a variance granted in
1961.
Looking at the permit history-it looks like the 1 1 story residence was
• Earliest permits call 1918 Baker a 11/2 Story SFR.
• A bathroom was added to the upper floor in 1964
• This structure was first called a Duplex in 1996 on a Bldg Permit Application to repair drywall.
• An electrical permit for dual meters was issued in Feb 1998-and the proposed use was DUPLEX-though the
application describes use as "Res"and then states, "Billed as duplex from utilities" I am not sure what is meant
by the comment-whether it was suggesting the 1%2 story structure was a duplex-or the two structures on the
property were being billed as a "Duplex."
• In May 1999-A Compliance letter was sent to the owner by the Department of Code Compliance-advising the
owner structure has been converted to a muti-family residence without planning or building permits-requiring
the owner take steps to make the structure complaint. It is not clear to me whether the structure was ever
brought into compliance.
Steve-Please confirm the approved use and how many dwelling units are permitted on the property.
Ted-please confirm whether or not a 2nd dwelling unit and 2nd kitchen renders the structure unlawful for being altered
and occupied without required permits and approvals.
Thanks both!
Don
Don Cunningham
/ /-_ Code Enforcement I Everett Police Department
`moi P:425.257.8564 13002 Wetmore Ave, Everett,WA 98201
Celebrating 125 years everettwa.gov/police I Facebook I Twitter
Note:Emails and attachments sent to and from the City of Everett are public records and may be subject to disclosure pursuant to the Public
Records Act.
