i.
K-9 BACK -TO -DUTY AGREEMENT
THIS AGREEMENT is dated as of May _, 2014, by and between the City of Everett, a
municipal corporation (the "City") and Michael Braley ("Braley").
BACKGROUND
A. The Everett Police Department previously owned a German Shepherd dog known
as K-9 Officer Quay.
B. The Everett Police Department retired K9 Quay due to his handler, Sergeant Mike
Braley, being promoted out of the K9 Unit. At the time, K9 Quay had only an estimated three
years of working life remaining and it was not prudent to assign him to a new handler.
Consequently, K9 Quay was sold to Sergeant Braley and this sale was completed under a K-9
Purchase Agreement between the City and Braley dated June 20, 2013.
C. Due to another EPD canine having to be medically retired, it is in the best
interest of the City and the Everett Police Department to return K9 Quay to the City's
ownership and go back on duty with a veteran handler. Braley and the Everett Police
Department believe that Quay is capable of effective police work.
AGREEMENT
As of the date of this Agreement, Braley is returning Quay to City. Upon return to the
City, Quay is City property and the City assumes all responsibility for the condition and care of
Quay.
Executed by the City and Braley as of the date first above written.
CITY OF EVERE I 1
RAY STEPHANSON, MAYOR
ATTEST:
CITY CLERK
APPROVED AS TO FORM:
CITY ATTORNEY
BRALEY
MICHAEL BRALEY
Back -to Duty Agreement
78
