r . A
Second Floor Framing/First Floor Units
The second floor was reviewed from the first floor units.
11. Significant moisture was observed in Units 91 through 94; however no structural
damage was observed. Areas of ceiling finishes were down in Units 91 and 94, and it
is likely that more finishes will continue to fall.
12. While moisture was observed in Units 99 and 100, no structural damage was
observed. Both units appeared to be vacant at the time of the fire.
13. Units 95 through 98 were not accessed because they were locked.
14. The walkway is typically not damaged. However, the framing adjacent to the north
stair is damaged.
Stairs
15. West Stairwell: Significant char was observed to the stair and landing framing above
the second floor to the third floor. There is some char to the upper stringers and
treads above the intermediate landing between the first and second floors.
16. Central Stairwell: The landings and stair framing are not damaged. However, the
soffit finishes are loose up near the third floor. The roof framing above the stairwell
is significantly charred (note above).
17. East Stairwell: No structural damage was observed in the east stairwell.
The areas of biggest structural concern are as follows:
• Collapsed flat roof areas in Units 111 through 115.
• Charred framing in the western 40' of exterior walkway at the third floor.
• West stairwell and the adjacent walkways.
• Central stairwell above the third floor.
• Third floor framing in Unit 111 (above Unit 101).
• Potential damage in the third floor framing in Unit 112 (above Unit 102).
From a structural standpoint, limited access to the eastern portion of the building may be
permitted. The east stairwell of the building should be used to access the three levels.
Structural hazards from the roof above begin within Units 117 and 116, and to the west.
Because there is an area of original roofing below the roof trusses, the collapsed roof is
typically being supported by the flat roof in a majority of the areas encountered. However,
the collapsed areas of the flat roof within Units 111 through 115 should be noted.
The third floor framing appears adequate in Units 113 through 120, and the second floor
framing appears adequate in Units 102 through 110.
Additional review of the floor framing below Unit 101 should be completed prior to access
to the room.
Access to the western units should be limited to personnel who understand the hazards
associated with fire damaged buildings. Anyone who enters the building should do so with
due care and caution, during daylight Flours and in good weather conditions (i.e.; light winds
and rain, etc.).
16001 Itr the bluffs 1/4/16
3/'.
