APPENDIX A
FIELD EXPLORATIOn'S
Field explorations consisted of a program of 14 backhoe excavated
test pits located as shown in Figure 1. The test pits were
located in the field by taping from North Broadway and the property
corners. Elevations shown on the test pit logs were otitained by
interpolation from a topographic map of the site. The locations
and elevations should be considered accurate only to the degree
implied by the method used. The test pit explorations were con-
ducted on December 1, 1978 and continuously observed and logged
i.n the field by Mr. Michael A. Pagano, geotechnical engineer from
our firm. The test pits provided visual information as to subsurface
conditions iediatel elow the ground surface to depths of up
to 15.0 feet.
, Sampling
,: Representative jar samples were obtained in each oF the test pits.
These samples were taken at locations where changes in Che soil
itypes were observed. VariaCions in subsurface soils are often
gradual and the specific location for sampling is a matter of
I judg_ment to select the most representative sample for that soil
tyr=, The samples were selected for the purpose of obtaining a
I record for further classification of the soils encountered, and
ta perform laboratory testing on these soils.
ITest Pit Logs
IThe logs of the test pits are presented in Figures A-1 through A-6.
These logs are based on our current interpretation of the field
and laboratory data.
I
--- --- —....s,„ _.-t_.
