Sheet A6.01 shows that the existing corridor along Grids F/1.1-3.3 and 1.1/E-G has been enclosed and can
only be accessed through an intervening room.
Response:A.Labels have been added to the indicated rooms on revised Sheet A6.01
B.A label has been added to this room, which is to be an unoccupied shell space. An access panel is to be added to
the space. See revisions on sheet A6.01.
C.Walls at the end of this existing corridor have been eliminated to maintain access to this space. See revisions on
sheet A6.01.
(Comment#3-07/17/19)Verify that the exiting is adequate for the revised configuration.
Response: Exiting calculations have been added to sheet A0.21 for the existing stairways to show current door widths allow
for additional occupancy from Pharmacy Replacement.
Fire Protection:
4. Sheet A1.01 indicates that the structural floor slab will be infilled at Grids B/3.4, C.5/5.5,and E/5.6. The floor
construction shall provide a minimum of two-hour fire resistance for Type IB construction. See IBC Table 601.
Response:An additional detail#4 has been added to sheet A8.02 to show the rated structural slab. The slab is to meet the
required two hour fire resistance per 2015 IBC Table 722.2.1.1.
(Comment#4-07/17/19) 4.The proposed solution does not appear to address the comment. I'm not clear on the use of
IBC Table 722.2.2.1,but I don't think it applies to concrete-topped metal decks. The metal deck effectively is the steel
reinforcement for the deck and requires fire protection. In addition, the slab does not provide protection for the supporting
steel angles and post-installed anchors. I'll discuss this with Tony to verify. Presuming he concurs, fire-proofing will need to
be added to the underside of the deck and supporting steel framing.
Response: Spray applied fire proofing has been added to detail 4/A8.02 per UL Listed assembly D710 for 2 HR rated
assemblies.
5. The plans on Sheets A0.21 and A6.01 indicate that existing walls will be included in the smoke and fire barriers. Details
confirming the existing wall construction shall be included in the drawings. The details shall confirm that the walls are
continuous to the floor construction above and are properly sealed. See IBC Sections 107.2.1 and 407.3,and Table 509.
Response:Partition tags have been added to the existing walls to describe the current conditions on Sheet A6.01.Partition
details have been added to sheet A8.01 to illustrate the existing wall construction type and associated rating.Walls are
continuous to the floor construction above as noted to provide the indicated fire barrier where required.
(Comment#5-07/17/19)Verify if the existing doors in the existing corridor walls are smoke-rated. It is noted that these
may qualify as an existing condition. Any doors in a previously non-corridor wall that is now a corridor wall needs to be
upgraded. The access panel into the"Shell Space"at Room C2/026E is an example.
Response: Existing doors have been labeled and identified on Sheet A6.01 and noted in the door schedule on A8.11.Ratings
on existing doors have been shown in the door schedule on A8.11.The access panel into the shell space is new and a note has
been added to have a 45 minute rating in the existing 1 HR rated wall.
Accessibility:
