placed between the façade's existing architectural columns but this would result in a
reduction to the proposed sign area which currently is complying with code and would
not achieve an aesthetically superior look. The proposed addition of the architectural
element to support the rooftop sign's face creates an aesthetically balanced look to the
existing hotel's facade and modernizes the overall look, an aesthetically superior look
that would not be possible under existing sign code. The amount of sign area attached to
the building is below the maximum allowed by code by approximately 62 square feet for
the three sides of the building.
Decision: The City of Everett Planning Director APPROVES the proposed plan design and
determined it meets the criteria listed in Subsection 36.210.A of the Zoning Code with the
following conditions:
The following conditions shall apply:
1. Sign 'D' & 'E' maximum sign area. The maximum sign area of the freestanding monument
signs shall be sixty square feet.
2. Sign D' minimum setback. The minimum setback from Pacific Street right-of-way and Pine
Street right-of-way for the 8-foot high monument sign shall be 1.5 feet. If the final design of
the sign is lower than what was approved with this decision document the minimum setback
may be reduced.
3. The location of freestanding monument sign 'E' within the Pine Street right-of-way must be
approved by Public Works and Traffic.
4. This project must comply with current City of Everett Design and Construction Standards
and building code.Permits are required.
5. The signs' designs must be similar to the designs of the plans submitted with this application.
Any deviation must be approved by the Planning Department.
6. If any additional signs are proposed in the future, this Comprehensive Sign Design Approval
may need to be revised.
This Planning Director's decision may be appealed. Appeal fowls are available from the
Planning Department and must be submitted along with the required filing fee within 14 days of
the date of this decision.
