computation denoting a uplift and downward force couple. Additionally, verify that web
stiffeners at the beam ends are not required.
Original Response: See revised detail for uplift and attached calculation that
included SW above.
New Comment: Attached calculations appear to be missing from the resubmittal.
Please provide.
28. Original Comment: It appears that new roof over framing is being added to the
existing building's roof framing. Please verify that the existing roof framing is able to
resist the additional loading or provide additional strengthening of the existing roof and
their connections per the IBC 2015. Please provide calculations verifying these new
conditions on the existing roof framing.
Original Response: See revised existing over frame and roof joist.
New Comment: Please provide details describing how the new overframing members
are connecting to existing structure. Please include details showing how the proposed
Microlam is framing into the existing.
29. Original Comment: It appears that the new structure is being constructed adjacent
to an existing structure. Per ASCE 7-10 Sec 12.12.3, please provide the structural
seismic minimum distance and provide calculations as required.
Original Response: See attached calculations.
New Comment: The attached calculations only compute the deflections at (1) floor
level and do not appear to include drift contributions from the shear walls deflecting in
the proposed structure. Please address why the drift contributions due to shear wall
deflections were ignored or provide calculations indicating their contributions. Also, per
ASCE 7-10 Sec 12.12.3, deflection contributions from the existing building must also be
considered as indicated in the equation.
New Comments
Fire Resistive Construction
1. The building is a one-hour rated structure. The fire-resistive listing and assembly details
should be provided for the roof/ceiling assembly and exterior walls. Section 602.1
2. The plans show many instances where two-hour floor/ceiling assemblies are provided.
Much if this is not necessary as the loads from the two-hour fire-barriers enclosing the
stair shaft have a vertical continuity of support and are not supported by the generic
floor/ceiling construction:
a. In the instances on the first floor where the fire-barriers rest on beams within the
floor-ceiling assembly, the beams are required to be individually fire-protected as
per Section 704.3.
b. Where a two-hour floor/ceiling assembly is supporting a two-hour fire barrier, the
walls supporting the two-hour floor/ceiling assembly are also required to be two-
hour fire-resistive construction. The fire-resistive listing and assembly details should
be provided.
