The letter addressed below is for
Building items only(Structural). See responses below. The correction comments are in smaller italicized type
while our responses are in the larger type.
STRUCTURAL
1. The statement of special inspections does not address the anchor installation. This shall be provided, such as on Sheet Fl.
Inspections shall be specified per IBC Table 1705.7.
Response: Attached is a Special Structural Inspection Form.A corresponding note is added to sheet
Fl notes
2c. Note 5.8 specifies a strap angle of 40 to 45 degrees. The RADCO report appears to state a minimum angle to horizontal of
45 degrees, while the Minute Man installation instructions appear to depict a maximum angle of 45-degrees to horizontal.
Please verify the installation limits and modify the detail(s)and notes on Sheet Fl as needed.
Response: Angle of straps for both lateral and uplift have been modified on sheet Fl notes to match
RADCO assumptions.
2d. The response did not address the comment, which was about the anchor angle, not the strap angle. Detail 5/F1 appears
to show a vertical installation. The product information indicates a 10-degree installation (from horizontal) away from the
building. The installation instructions also appear to indicate that a stabilizer plate is required. Please verify the installation
requirements for the anchors and specify as needed..
Response: The notes require the installation to be per the manufacturer's installation
recommendations. That being said, the plans notes have been modified to reflect a max. 10-degree
variance from vertical installation (per attached installation recommendation). There are two type of
stabilizer assembly for these anchors, shovel plate installed adjacent the anchor and a stabilizer head
at the top of the anchor shaft. The anchor plate is usually used in fine grained loose soil conditions. A
shovel plate is not as beneficial as the stabilizer head in large grain materials and heavily compacted
soils or gravels. Pounding in a stabilizer plate can disrupt the surface condition. In this installation on
a compacted gravel pad, the stabilizer head is preferred.
Thank you so much for your time. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Sincerely,
Scott Connor /2i
Principal l
SCR I Architects
Response to Correction Letter-Portable at Horizon Elementary School/Project No.B1906-015
