order to support and enhance the visual quality and character of the city. Such aesthetic <br /> considerations shall include,but not be limited to,appropriate street trees and plantings,utility <br /> structures such as street lighting and traffic control devices,public right-of-way signs,retaining walls <br /> and pedestrian safety rails,bicycle lanes,transit benches and shelters, and other'right-of way <br /> improvements as appropriate. <br /> 3. The design of sites,buildings,landscaping and signs which are developed on properties abutting the <br /> designed gateway corridors should be of a quality that upgrades and enhances the aesthetic character <br /> of the City in general and the immediate areas in particular. <br /> 4. The City shall work with property and business owners along gateway corridors to develop and <br /> implement streetscape improvement plans both within the public right-of-way and on properties <br /> abutting the right-of-way. Such improvement plans shall be coordinated with Snohomish County for <br /> the unincorporated portions of corridors that are located in the Everett Planning Area. <br /> Fire p,r t ent Requirements: <br /> 1. Access-The International Fire Code requires that all new structures shall provide Fire Department <br /> access roads to within 150 feet exterior walking distance of all portions of the ground floor. Fire <br /> Department access roads(Fire Lanes)shall provide a minimum of 20 feet in width of unobstructed, <br /> paved driving surface,exclusive of shoulders,with a minimum clear height of 13'6". Inside turn <br /> radii must be 35 feet. Outside turn radii must be 55 feet. Slope approach and departure angles <br /> must not exceed 8 degrees. Fire lane grade must not exceed 15 percent. Fire lane construction <br /> must comply with.AASHTO 1430 load capacity(74,000 gvw). Fire Lanes will be posted and <br /> maintained as required by the Fire Department Unorthodox access which meets code <br /> requirements but is too unusual for crews will not be allowed. <br /> Note: 14-foot clearance is approved on the canopy. <br /> 2. Buildings greater than 30 feet high require ladder apparatus access in accordance with the 2009 <br /> International Fire Code, Section D105. The unobstructed width of the access in the immediate <br /> vicinity of the building shall be 26 feet. At least one of the required access routes shall be located <br /> within a minimum of 15 feet and a maximum of 30 feet from the building and shall be positioned <br /> parallel to one entire side of the building. <br /> 3. A Knox Box is required. <br /> a. One Knox Box will be required in the office sprinkler/alarm room area. <br /> b. Knox key overrides will be required at gates. <br /> 4. Fire Lane Marking-Fire apparatus access roads shall be marked whenever necessary to maintain the <br /> unobstructed minimum required width of roadways. Fire lanes shall be marked as follows: <br /> a. Curbs shall be identified by red traffic paint with a 6-inch wide stripe on the top and front, <br /> extending the length of the designated fire lane. <br /> b. Rolled curbs shall be identified by red traffic paint with a 6-inch wide stripe on the curb, <br /> extending the length of the designated fire lane. <br /> c. Lanes without curbs shall be identified by red traffic paint with a 6-inch wide stripe on the <br /> pavement,extending the length of the designated fire lane. <br /> 7 � <br />
