I <br /> 1 1 (******) <br /> 2 Induction loops shall be constructed as detailed in City of Everett Drawing Nos. 804, <br /> 3 805, 809, 810, and Section 8-20.3(14)C of the Standard Specifications with the <br /> 4 following modifications: <br /> 5 <br /> 6 1. The loop locations shall be marked on the pavement by the contractor and <br /> I <br /> 7 approved by the engineer prior to sawcutting. At no point shall any of the <br /> 8 sawcuts pass closer than 1' to any utility cover. <br /> 9 2. Loop detector sealant shall be as shown in City of Everett Standard Drawing <br /> 10 809, or as approved by the Engineer. <br /> 11 3. Rope is not required. <br /> 12 4. Loops shall not be installed in rainy weather or at temperatures below 40°. <br /> 13 5. Loops shall be placed in the sawcut in a clockwise direction. <br /> 14 6. The loop sealant shall be applied in accordance with the manufacturer's <br /> 15 recommendations. <br /> I <br /> 16 17 7. Detector loop wire shall use 14 AWG stranded copper conductors, and shall <br /> conform to IMSA Specification 51-7, with cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) <br /> 18 insulation encased in a polyethylene outer jacket (PE tube). . <br /> 19 8. The area around the conduit stub-out shall be patched with hot mix asphalt <br /> 20 concrete if it is greater than 2" in width. <br /> 21 9. The sawcuts shall be of uniform depth and any sharp edges, abrasions or <br /> 22 ridges shall be removed prior to placing the wire. <br /> 23 10. The sawcut depth shall be a minimum of 3'/2" and shall provide a minimum <br /> 24 of 2" cover above the loop wires. <br /> 25 11. The sawcut width shall be a minimum of 1/4" for the loop and 3/8" for the <br /> 26 home run. <br /> 27 12. The sawcut shall be cleaned out with a high pressure water stream and then <br /> 28 dried with compressed air prior to placing the wire. <br /> 29 13.All splices between the loop wire and the loop lead-in cable shall be soldered <br /> 30 and utilize a splice kit in conformance with Standard Drawing 809. <br /> 31 14. When the roadway is to be overlaid as a part of the project, the loops shall <br /> 32 be installed prior to the final overlay. <br /> 33 15. Circular loops are standard installations. Where shown in the Plans, the <br /> 34 contractor shall install quadrupole loops at stop lines due to stub-out <br /> 35 diameter. At locations where quadrupole loops are shown and adequate <br /> 36 stub-out diameter exists, round loops may be substituted for quadrupole <br /> 37 loops. <br /> I 38 <br /> 39 <br /> 40 Existing Traffic Loops <br /> 41 <br /> 111 42 The Contractor shall notify the Area Traffic Engineer through the Engineer a <br /> 43 minimum of five (5) working days in advance of pavement removal or grinding in <br /> 44 areas with existing loops. <br /> I 45 <br /> 46 If the Engineer suspects that damage to any loop, not identified in the Plans as <br /> 47 being replaced, may have resulted from Contractor's operations or is not operating <br /> 48 adequately, the Engineer may order the Contractor to perform the field tests <br /> 49 specified in Section 8 20.3(14)D. The test results shall be recorded and submitted <br /> 50 to the Engineer.
