The drawings include sheets for
(2)Type II hoods. Type II (and Type I) hoods need must be submitted separately under their own permit
application. The following provides direction and preliminary comments; a full review of the submittal documents will
not be performed until the submittal issues are addressed as listed below.
Please address the following:
1. Submit two new copies of the mechanical drawings with the hood information removed. The following list of
sheets pertaining to the hoods is based on our review, but shall be verified by the applicant: M-400, M-401, M-
500. All information associated with the mechanical hoods shall be removed from other sheets. See Note
22/M-100 and Section 3/M-501. Once again, these are offered as examples and not a comprehensive list. The
applicant shall verify all hood information is removed.
2. RTU-1, RTU-2, and RTU-3 are already included in Permit No. M1908-008. They shall be removed from the
mechanical drawings. They should be depicted on Sheet M-100 but identified for reference only. The RTU-
schedule on Sheet M-000 should be removed.
3. The applicant shall verify that the unit weights specified in the mechanical drawings do not exceed the design
values specified in the previously approved building (i.e.,structural) drawings under Permit No. B1805-010).
4. Provide a revised valuation for the mechanical permit. It is presumed that the current valuation includes the
hoods,which should be removed.
5. Submit a separate application for the hoods, including separate drawing sets.
6. Verify that the hoods are Type I. Based on this being a restaurant preparing food, it seems that the hoods
should be Type I unless they meet the Type II definition per IMC Section 202 "Hoods:Type II" and Section
507.3. Note that Note 22/M-100 identifies grease duct cleanouts and Sections 18/M-500 identifies the
equipment under the hoods as"cooking equipment".
7. The hood drawings shall show all connection requirements between the hoods and the supporting
structure. The hoods shall be provided with lateral bracing in addition to gravity support.
8. Detail 5/M-500 indicates the fire wrap to extend 18" above combustible material, but does not show this
consistently, nor is it consistent in Details 18/M-500 and 3/M-501. Other details should similarly be
reviewed. All details shall consistently show the requirement.
9. Detail 5/M-500 states to provide a hinge and flexible electrical cable. The detail shall also require a restraint per
IMC 506.5.3.
10. Verify the hoods have the required clearance to combustible construction. Detail 18/M-500 appears to indicate
metal stud framing, but the construction drawings consist of wood stud framing.
_ Drew Martin,P.E.,S.E.
Associate Engineer—Commercial Plans Examiner I Permit Services
LNBi
425.257.8813 I 3200 Cedar Street, 2nd Floor, Everett,WA 98201
EVERETT Hours: Monday—Friday 7:30am-12:OOpm and 1:OOpm-4:OOpm
everettwa.gov I Facebook I Twitter
1 3
