July 26,2000 <br /> RESOLUTION-U.S.S.ABRAHAM LINCOLN <br /> Moved by Ccuocihnmiber Simpson,seconded by Couocilmember Pope to <br /> adopt Resolution No.0932 in which the City of Everett adopts the USS <br /> Abraham Lincoln as follows: <br /> WHEREAS,the City of Ever-n,Washingmn,under the leadership of United <br /> Stares Senator Henry M.Jackson,Everett Mayor Bill Moore,and many civic <br /> leaders worked tirelessly and effectively to convince Bm U.S.Navy Bat Everett <br /> was an ideal strategic location fora carrier bank group hone port;and <br /> WHEREAS,Naval Station Everett became a reality with a ribbon cutting <br /> ceremony in 1994;and <br /> WHEREAS,in January of 1997,the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and <br /> her dedicated officers and crew arrived at their new home port,Naval Station <br /> Evrxt;and <br /> WHEREAS,the USS Abraham Lincoln plays an important role in protecting <br /> our tion and maintaining pace throughout the world,particularly in the <br /> Middle Let;and <br /> WHEREAS,the officers and crew members of the USS Abraham Lincoln and <br /> their familia have become active in our churches,schools and civic <br /> associations,coaching youth sports,mat ring young children,and otherwise <br /> involved in our community in many positive ways;and <br /> WHEREAS,the City of Evart wishes to celebmre and commemorate the <br /> unique and special relationships which have been forged between the businesses <br /> and civaeau of Everett and the men and women of the Lincoln and their families <br /> through the traditional"adoption"by the City of the USS Abraham Lincoln; <br /> and <br /> NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Everett hereby <br /> adopter the USS Abraham Lincoln;and <br />
