June 28,2006 <br /> that are consistent with the cunent update of the transportation element of <br /> the city's comprehensive plan. <br /> Roll was called with all council members voting yes except Council <br /> Member Stonecipher who was excused. <br /> Motion carded. <br /> PUBLIC HEARING—TRANSIT FARES AND POLICY <br /> Vice Present Olson opened a public hearing relating to Council Bill No. <br /> 0606-24,a proposed ordinance updating transit fares end transit policy, <br /> changing the base fare to fifty cents,eliminating transfers for feed-route <br /> services,reducing monthly pass fare to eighteen dollars,setting fares for <br /> demand response services <br /> eNices and establishing free fares for cedain <br /> promotional <br /> purposes. <br /> Torn Hingson,Transportation Services,explained the proposed changes. <br /> He stated that a public hearing was also held May 17, 2006. <br /> Implementation of the fare changes will take place September 1,2006 if <br /> this proposed ordinance Is adopted. <br /> Richard Tarry,Transportation Services,gave some specifics regarding the <br /> new fixed route fare structure:would eliminate paper transfers;lower the <br /> adult fare from$.75 to$50;Increase the youth fare from$.35 to$.50;and <br /> establish the price of a monthly pass at$18;seniors and disabled would <br /> be eligible to ride free at all times:regarding senior citizens until <br /> December 50,2006,seniors can go to customer service center and <br /> receive card that will continue their eligibility,after January 1,2007 the <br /> age will need to be 65 to maintain the lower status. On pare transit <br /> service the new demand response services fare would change from <br /> donation base to$1 per trip If paid in cash or an$18 monthly Puget Pass. <br /> Hand to hand transfers or van to van transfers which occur between <br /> DART and our pars transit service will be accepted without a charge. <br /> Council Member Gipson questioned not having an agreement so that <br /> other agencies will accept our transfers.He also questioned the increase <br /> in youth fares. <br /> 187 <br />
