June 17,2008 Ili
Tom Hingson showed a video viewing the current bus route no.1 serving
the View Ridge Neighborhood. Elm Street is a narrow street so the
recommendation is to find another way to serve View Ridge and not serve
Elm Street. An offer was given from the Barton for property on Olympic
beyond the playgeld for a bus turnaround. This option was investigated
and the estimated cost of a bus turn around was approximately$150,000.
$114,000 of that was for materials and labor and an estimated 30%for
engineering and unknown contingencies. He thanked the Barton for the
property offer. It hes given an opportunity to look at en eltemative b
address this neighborhood;however,it isn't recommended the solution.
The recommendation is to operate by coming Into Elm Street, tum right at
45.and come back vie Olympic. This would be for every single tip rather
than Intermittent until 6 p.m.Inbound but after 6 p.m.people could request
to be dropped off at Elm Street.Current customers would need to walk
approximateN 135 blocks farther than currently to access their bus stop.
Eleven mom pick up trips through the neighborhood would be added,
seventeen more drop off opportunities on week days end proportionately
more service on the weekends.
President Nielsen requested public comment.
Denise Mackenstadt,14607 52 Avenue W.,Edmonds,a specialist in
orientation mobility for the blind, stated that It was brought to her attention
that there is a visually impaired person along this route and that this is the
only transportation she has in and out of her home area. There are a
number of individuals In the population that are dependent upon fixed
route travel. Certain ADA requirements must be met In order to use
paratransk.Options should be used before eliminating routes.
Duane Smith,2230 Gale Place, stated that he is glad that the loop Is not
being totally discontinued.but he hates to see anything eliminated. As
president he represents the Sno-King Chapter of the National Federation
for the Blind.
Timothy Ingram,2525 Rucker Avenue, spoke in support of bus coverage
for the 2n0 shift at the Boeing Company.
Council Member Roberts related that it would be worth a discussion with
the Boeing coordinator.
185
