Project: Grand Avenue Park Bridge
Change Order No.: 25
Change Order Effective Date: 9-29-2020
New Item #B-113—Additional Miscellaneous Steel. The bridge drains as designed drained directly
into steel beams below the bridge deck, so the contractor added miscellaneous steel and redirected the
drains so that the bridge would drain properly. This item is being created to account for costs to
implement these revisions. Working Days impacted: 4.
New Item #B-114—West Landing Drainage Revisions. The contractor installed additional 4-inch
and 6-inch drainage pipes which meandered over and under sewer piping, electrical facilities, and steel.
truss members in order to avoid conflicts with them. This new item is being created to account for
costs to implement these revisions. Working Days impacted: 6.
New Item # B-115—Concrete Mounted Handrail,West Abutment Tower. The approved plans did
not show installation details for connecting the stainless steel handrail to the concrete abutment. The
contractor added mechanical hardware and an epoxy-set anchoring system to accomplish this work.
This new item is being created to account for costs related to this additional work. Working Days
impacted: 2.
New Item #B-116—Throw Barrier Cap Channel Modifications. The top cap channels did not
match up in some of the transition areas of the bridge and at corners where it is critical that they match
evenly where they meet. This new item is being created to account for costs to make steel
modifications both in the shop and in the field. Working Days impacted: 2.5.
New Item #B-117—East Stairs ADA Adjustments. Greater than anticipated static bridge span
deflection resulted in the need to adjust the east stairs. This new item is created to account for costs to
re-fit and adjust the east stairs so that they would remain ADA compliant. Working Days impacted:
3.5.
New Item #B-118—Concrete Class 4,000-Pedestrian Upgrades,Increased Quantities Cost.
New Item #B-119—Concrete Class 4,000D For Bridge,Increased Quantities Cost.
Both new concrete items above had actual quantities of over 125% of their original bid item.
The WSDOT Standard Specifications allows for each original bid item to be renegotiated to
compensate the contractor for actual costs of the bid item. New items were created to pay for
each of those quantities above the 125% amount.
New Item #B-120—Bridge Lighting Modifications. One of the L03 lighting fixtures for the bridge
lighting did not properly fit as designed so this item is being created to account for costs to procure and
install a modified L03 lighting fixture in the space between the bridge and the outside wall of the
elevator shaft. Working Days impacted: 0.
New Item #B-121 —Install Bridge Bonding. In order to ensure an electrically continuous bridge
structure, it was recommended that the electrical subcontractor install additional grounding, as required
by the National Electrical Code, to provide a dedicated low resistance path to earth for fault currents.
This new item is being created to account for costs to install bridge bonding and ensure the safety of all
while crossing the bridge. Working Days impacted: 0.
