a. The electrical plans state that there will be a generator— please clarify.
6. It should be verified that the elevator will be provided with standby power (see
comment above) and comply with the emergency operation and signaling device
requirements of Section 2.27 of SAME A17.1. Section 1009.4
7. The location of each smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector should be shown on
the plans. Sections 907.2.11 and 915.1.1
Construction
1. Two-hour shaft wall detail W5/A7.1 references GA File No. WP 7051 - that listing
requires proprietary 1/2"GWB (type C). If that wall adjoins a dwelling unit, the insulation
specified in the listing should be provided. Sections 703.2 & 1207
2. A symmetrical, one-hour, fire-resistive listing should be shown for the V-A exterior walls
that are 10'feet or less from the southern property line. Section 705.5
3. Stair Section 20/A7.9 shows two-hour shaft partitions resting on one-hour floor/ceiling
assemblies (walls are not continuous). Detail 13/A7.1 depicts the typical construction
requirement of a continuous shaft: for clarity — please reference this detail on the wall
section. Section 707.5
4. The South Stair has enclosures that extend past the stairway opening (to the East).
These extensions have two-hour walls resting on one-hour floor/ceiling assemblies. The
framing supporting the two-hour walls should be shown as two-hours as well (to the
foundation). Otherwise, the fire barriers should be continuous to the foundation. Section
707.5.1
5. A listing should be provided for wall types W12 &W13. Section 703.2
Egress
1. The egress plans show that the barrier as required by Section 1023.8 is in place;
however it is located at the first riser of the stairway going up, which is an awkward
arrangement. Due to the landing restrictions of the egress level, it may be less
hazardous and more prudent to place the barrier in the middle of the mid-level landing
1/2-story below the egress level.
2. A wall tag should be provided at the western partition of the exit passageway leading
from the South Stair of the 1st floor.
3. The 406-706 series of 90-minute stair enclosure doors should be shown on the door
schedule. Section 716.5
4. An additional roof access ladder should be provided from the platform in the South Stair
to just under the roof. Section 1011.12
5. If the electrical service is greater than 1200 amps, Section 1006.2.2.6 may apply (two
exists from electrical room).
CITY OF EVERETT • 3200 Cedar Street • Everett, WA 98201 • (425)257-8813 Page 2/V
