Engagement Strategy 5: Virtual Community Workshops
Overview: BERK-led online workshops are opportunities to both share information and collect community
input.
Approach: Online meetings will include a brief presentation to share key findings and proposed
strategies during the System Recommendation Stage. To ensure robust engagement, we will design
interactive opportunities for participants to provide feedback, such as live online polling or breakout
groups. We take great care that all participants can engage in such activities, regardless of their comfort
with technology or native language.
Roles:
■ City: review draft materials; host and participate in meetings.
■ BERK Team: develop draft and final materials described above; gather and summarize input.
Engagement Strategy 6: Online Story Map and Questionnaires
Overview: A project website or GIS-enabled StoryMap can be used to provide baseline information on
needs, trends, and gaps; post updates; and capture ongoing input.
Approach: We will generate a base map showing existing City of Everett parks and open space
amenities, gaps, and opportunities. Interactive features will allow participants to identify both what they
like and what they would like to see in the future during the Vision Stage. Targeted questions will focus
on tradeoffs during the System Recommendations Stage.
Roles:
■ City: review draft materials.
■ BERK Team: develop draft and final materials described above; gather and summarize input.
Engagement Strategy 7: Legislative Process
Overview: The BERK Team will support the City's legislative process with the Parks Board and City
Council.
Approach: Members of the BERK team will present or support City staff in keeping legislative bodies up-
to-date on the planning process during the Vision and System Recommendation Stages. We will also
support presentation of a Recommended Draft Plan during the Draft Plan Stage, including a summary of
the analytic rationale and community input that contributed to the outcome. We will respond to questions
and make revisions as requested before finalizing the document.
Roles:
■ City: review draft materials; lead presentations or direct the BERK Team to lead presentations.
■ BERK Team: develop draft and final materials that integrate changes requested by the City's
legislative bodies.
s11IDRAFT November 2020 Everett PROS Plan Update Preliminary Outreach and Engagement Plan 16
