Key Challenges that Remain for us in 2021 (from the Assessment Completed in December)
♦ Issue #1: Bandwidth is a problem for half-time office holders.
♦ Question: How do we do the work that is needed in the face of ongoing crises? Are we
willing to invest additional time to this endeavor?
♦ Issue #2: Staffing cuts on the Executive (Administrative) side have been challenging or
everyone. Made it harder to know what's coming down the pike and left more room for
misunderstandings
♦ Question: What kind of communication protocols can we put in place at the start of this
year --with accountability on both sides (to provide and to review) that could address
this issue?
♦ Issue #3: Open public meeting act makes it hard to work out misunderstandings in real
time.
♦ Question: How do we create space to "noodle" on problems together more informally?
♦ Issue #4. Concern about not being able to make more headway on the hard decisions
needed to correct for the budget deficit and leverage the taxing authority available or
shedding some operations.
♦ Question: What keeps us from making these hard decisions? Can we explicitly name
some of them and so they don't get in our way this year?
♦ Issue #5: Building bridges is even essential than before within Council and between
Council and the Administration.
♦ Question: What are we willing to invest to build these bridges and develop more trust to
work together well th►s year?
5
