Temporary Shoring Recommendations
Proposed Apartments: 1020 North Broadway, Everett, Washington
July 5, 2018
The temporary shoring wall will be constructed by excavating a trench to the construction
subgrade elevation and then backfilling the excavation with CDF. The CDF will be cast
neat against the trench sidewalls.
After the CDF has cured, the building excavation will be accomplished on the inside of the
CDF shoring wall. After the building is complete, the CDF shoring wall will be abandoned
in place.
The CDF shoring wall will support a temporary excavation with a maximum height of
about 10 feet. Above the wall will be an ascending cut slope ranging up to four feet high
with a gradient of 1H:1V. The ground surface below the wall will be level.
CDF SHORING WALL RECOMMENDATIONS
The following recommendations can be used for the CDF shoring:
• The maximum recommended wall height is 10 feet. For this wall height, the
CDF shoring wall should have a minimum width of three feet.
• Loose soils in the base of the trench should be cleaned out using a clean -out
bucket on an excavator.
• The CDF mix design should be at least 1'/2 sacks of Portland cement per cubic
yard.
• The wall face should be constructed vertical.
• The grade above the wall may be level or sloping upward at a maximum
inclination of 111:1V.
• The grade at the base of the wall should be level. The base of the CDF shoring
wall does not need to be keyed below the base of the excavation.
• PanGEO should observe the excavation for the CDF shoring and the building
excavation as the face of the shoring wall is exposed.
The performance of the CDF shoring wall should be monitored by a professional survey
using optical survey methods. We recommend points be established at least every 20 feet
along the length of the wall. The points should be monitored at least twice a week during
excavation and at least once a week after the building footing is cast against the base of th _,
17-233 1020 N Broadway - CDF Shoring17 233 1020 N n..,...a..uyPage
PanGEO, Inc.
L
