•
. 1MERIDIAN
SHORELINE,
ENGINEERING
kA
October 22, 2018
Drew Martin, P.E., S.E.
Associate Engineer / Commercial Plans Examiner
City of Everett
3200 Cedar Street
Everett, Washington 98201
Plan Check Number: B1809-002, First Review
Address: 2002 Madison Street
Dear Mr. Martin:
Thank you for the careful review of the permit drawing submittal. I trust that you and they will
find my response adequately addresses each of your structural concerns. My responses are
italicized for clarity and where necessary, supplemental calculations and revised drawings are
provided for reference.
1. Comment: Structural and geotechnical special inspections are required for this project.
A statement on special inspections shall be submitted with the permit documents. The
statement shall include a table listing each type of special inspection and shall specify
the extent of each inspection (e.g., continuous, periodic) per IBC Section 1704.3.1. The
table shall include special requirements for seismic and wind resisting systems as
required by IBC Sections 1704.3.2 and 1704.3.3, respectively. See IBC Sections 107.1,
1704.2.3 and 1704.3.
Response: Please see sheet 51.3
2. The project does not appear to include a geotechnical investigation of the project site
soils. Based on the location of the project site, the design soil load bearing values shall
not exceed the presumptive values of Table 1806.2. The design values shall not exceed
those for Class 4 materials without classification of the site soils or performance of a
geotechnical investigation by a qualified geotechnical engineer. Note that the structural
calculations indicate an allowable soil bearing strength of 1,500 psf has been used in the
design. The design values shall be specified in the General Notes on Sheet S0.1 in
Section C "Foundations". See IBC Sections 1603.1.6, 1803.1, 1803.5.1, 1803.5.2, and
1806.2.
Response: See item #1 under C. Foundation on sheet SO.1
