r <br /> CITY OF EVERETT SPECIAL PROVISIONS <br /> Trench dewatering shall be included with the Work with no direct compensation <br /> made. <br /> 7-09.3(8) Removal and Replacement of Unsuitable Materials <br /> Delete all three paragraphs of 7-09.3(8) and substitute the following: <br /> Remove Engineer classified unsuitable material at the trench bottom and replace <br /> with "Foundation Material Class A or B", or other Engineer approved imported or <br /> native material. <br /> Replace, at Contractor's expense, unauthorized over-excavation with Gravel <br /> Borrow. Compact Gravel Borrow to minimum 90-percent maximum density. <br /> 7-09.3(9) Bedding the Pipe <br /> Revise the first paragraph in 7-09.3(9) to read as follows: <br /> Place sand backfill for pipe zone bedding to the depths shown in COE Standard <br /> Drawing No. 614. Compact sand backfill for pipe zone bedding around the pipe to <br /> ' 90-percent of maximum density by approved hand-held tools, so as to provide firm <br /> and uniform support for the full length of the pipe, valves, and fittings. Determine <br /> maximum in place density using nuclear method (ASTM 2922-17). Determine <br /> laboratory maximum dry density and optimum moisture content using the Modified <br /> Proctor Method in accordance with ASTM D-1557. Take care to prevent damage to <br /> the pipe and its protective coating. <br /> 7-09.3(10) Backfilling Trenches <br /> Revise the last paragraph in 7-09.3(10) to read as follows: <br /> Place a minimum 12-inch sand cushion between the water main and existing <br /> pipelines or other conduits when encountered during construction. <br /> Supplement 7-09.3(10) by adding the following: <br /> Backfill trenches in accordance with COE Standard Drawing No. 614. <br /> Unless Engineer directs otherwise, provide Controlled Density Fill for fill above the <br /> pipe zone for water main construction that is perpendicular to the travel lane in <br /> paved street sections. <br /> The Engineer may authorize the use of Gravel Borrow or suitable native material in <br /> non-paved areas. <br /> 7-09.3(13) Handling of Pipe <br /> Supplement 7-09.3(13) by adding the following: <br /> Supply water main pipe having ends plugged by manufacturer immediately after <br /> manufacturing to eliminate debris entrance into the pipe during shipping and <br /> storage. Leave plugs in place until installing pipe in trench. Failure to supply the <br /> debris plugs or to maintain the debris plugs until pipe installation may be cause for <br /> City to reject the pipe or require Contractor to disinfect the pipe in accordance with <br /> AWWA C651 and as witnessed by City Water Quality personnel prior to installation. <br /> 7-09.3(19) Connections <br /> 7-09.3(19)A Connections to Existing Mains <br /> Delete the last paragraph in 7-09.3(19)A and substitute the following: <br /> Only City Utilities Department personnel may make connections to existing <br /> water mains after successful pressure testing, disinfection and flushing. <br /> 1 Schedule arrangements with the City Utilities Department a minimum of five <br /> business days in advance of making connections to the existing water main. <br /> Assemble necessary materials, equipment, and labor necessary to properly <br /> complete the Work prior to beginning the connection. <br /> Water Main Replacement"V" Division 7—STORM,SEWER,WATER April,2021 <br /> ' WO No.—UP3730 SP—173 <br />
