r
KRAZAN&ASSOCIATES, INC.
KA Project No. 092-20006
DRAFT Geotechnical Engineering Investigation
11 Everett Water Main"V"
May 7,2020
Page No.3
or abandonment of valves, fire hydrants, water service lines and installation of new water meter boxes
' and setters, related appurtenances and surface restoration.
SUBSURFACE CONDITIONS
Subsurface Evaluation
Thirteen (13) exploratory soil borings were completed to evaluate the subsurface soil and groundwater
conditions. The borings were completed on April 66 and 7t', 2020 with a subcontracted drill rig.
Krazan subcontracted traffic control for worker and public safety. A City of Everett street use permit
was obtained prior to commencing the field work.
The soil borings extended to depths of approximately 6.5 to 11.5 feet below the existing road surface.
A geotechnical representative from Krazan and Associates was present during the explorations,
examined the soils and geologic conditions encountered, obtained samples of the different soil types,
and maintained logs of the explorations. The approximate locations of the borings are shown on the
Schematic Site Plans in Figures 2 through 4.
Representative samples of the subsurface soils encountered in the geotechnical explorations were
collected and sealed in plastic bags and transported to our laboratory. The soils encountered in the
explorations were visually classified in general accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System
(USCS). A more detailed description of the field investigation is presented in Appendix A.
Geologic Setting
The "Geologic Map of the Everett 7.5-Minute Quadrangle, Snohomish County, Washington,"prepared
by James P. Minard (USGS, 1985) and the "Geologic Map of the Marysville Quadrangle, Snohomish
County, Washington," prepared by James P. Minard (USGS, 1985) indicate that the site areas are
underlain by Quaternary Vashon glacial till (Qvt) and Quaternary Vashon advance outwash (Qva).
Glacial till generally consists of a compact, unsorted mixture of clay, silt, sand, gravel, cobbles and
boulders. Glacial advance outwash typically consists of compact, poorly to moderately sorted sand and
gravel.
Subsurface Profile
The roadway surfaces in the three project areas consisted of asphalt pavement. However, we
encountered a layer of concrete, approximately 10 inches thick, underlying the asphalt surface in soil
boring B-1 at the intersection of Olympic Boulevard and Seahurst Avenue.
I
Krazan&Associates,Inc.
Offices Serving The Western United States
1
