I 1 I2 5-04.3(11)C Rejection Without Testing (Mixture or Compaction) 3 The Engineer may, without sampling, reject any batch, load, or section of Roadway that I 4 appears defective. Material rejected before placement shall not be incorporated into the 5 pavement. Any rejected section of Roadway shall be removed. 6 111 7 No payment will be made for the rejected materials or the removal of the materials 8 unless the Contractor requests that the rejected material be tested. If the Contractor 9 elects to have the rejected material tested, a minimum of three representative samples I 10 will be obtained and tested. Acceptance of rejected material will be based on 11 conformance with the nonstatistical acceptance Specification. If the CPF for the rejected 12 material is less than 0.75, no payment will be made for the rejected material; in addition, 13 the cost of sampling and testing shall be borne by the Contractor. If the CPF is greater 14 than or equal to 0.75, the cost of sampling and testing will be borne by the Contracting 15 Agency. If the material is rejected before placement and the CPF is greater than or equal 16 to 0.75, compensation for the rejected material will be at a CPF of 0.75. If rejection I 17 occurs after placement and the CPF is greater than or equal to 0.75, compensation for 18 the rejected material will be at the calculated CPF with an addition of 25 percent of the 19 unit Contract price added for the cost of removal and disposal. I20 21 5-04.3(11)D Rejection -A Partial Sublot I 22 In addition to the random acceptance sampling and testing, the Engineer may also 23 isolate from a normal sublot any material that is suspected of being defective in relative 24 density, gradation or asphalt binder content. Such isolated material will not include an 25 original sample location. A minimum of three random samples of the suspect material will I 26 be obtained and tested. The material will then be statistically evaluated as an 27 independent lot in accordance with Section 1-06.2(2). 28 ii III 29 5-04.3(11)E Rejection -An Entire Sublot 30 An entire sublot that is suspected of being defective may be rejected. When a sublot is II 31 rejected a minimum of two additional random samples from this sublot will be obtained. 32 These additional samples and the original sublot will be evaluated as an independent lot 33 in accordance with Section 1-06.2(2). I 34 35 5-04.3(11)F Rejection -A Lot in Progress 36 The Contractor shall shut down operations and shall not resume HMA placement until I 37 such time as the Engineer is satisfied that material conforming to the Specifications can 38 be produced: 39 1 40 1. When the Composite Pay Factor (CPF) of a lot in progress drops below 1.00 and 41 the Contractor is taking no corrective action, or 42 2. When the Pay Factor(PF) for any constituent of a lot in progress drops below I43 0.95 and the Contractor is taking no corrective action, or 44 3. When either the PFi for any constituent or the CPF of a lot in progress is less 45 than 0.75.
