•
Mr. Nathan Crawford
Plan Check Number: B1907-025, First Structural Review
August 6, 2019
8. Sheet 6 shows a custom steel bracket detail. See IBC Sections 107.2.1 and 2205.1, and AISC
360-10 Section M1. The following comments shall be addressed:
a. The required sections for the steel framing are incomplete. The minimum wall thickness
shall be specified.
b. The steel bucket at the top of the bracket requires additional dimensions to specify the size
and location of connection holes.
c. The size of the fasteners (e.g.,, bolts and lag screws) shall be specified.
d. The detail specifies 1/2"-diameter holes. It is presumed that nominal 1/2"bolts and lag
screws are intended on the project. The holes shall be oversized 1/16"to accommodate the
required connections.
e. The size and type of the welds for the frame joints shall be specified.
f. The height or slope of the 1x2 brace shall be specified.
g. The bracket and fasteners shall be provided with weather-resistant coatings or constructed
of a suitable material to prevent corrosion. See AISC 360-10 Section B3.13. Reactive
materials shall not be used together (e.g., stainless and galvanized steel, etc.).
9. The connections for the deck and the canopy appear intended to be installed through the
horizontal siding, which is not acceptable. The connections shall fasten directly to the structural
framing. The exterior moisture barrier shall not be damaged or compromised. Additional
details shall be provided clarifying the required construction. See IBC Section 107.2.1.
10.The project includes wood framing exposed to weather. The structural notes shall require all
wood exposed to weather to be preservative-treated or naturally-durable wood. The note shall
require the cut ends and surfaces (e.g., trimmed framing, stair cut-outs, drilled holes, etc.) of
preservative-treated wood to be coated with a preservative treatment complying with AWPA U1.
See IBC Sections 2304.12.1 and 2304.12.2.3.
Foundation System:
11. Sheet 9 shows a typical footing detail including a post base and post-installed expansion
anchor. Proprietary products shall be identified in the structural notes. The connection model
numbers shall be specified. The components shall be provided with a coating or made from
materials that are resistant to corrosion. See IBC Sections 107.2.1 and 2205.1, and AISC 360-
10 Section B3.13.
12.The foundation support for the stair stringers on Sheet 2 is not specified. A foundation element
shall be specified. The stairs shall be anchored to the foundation to prevent movement. See
IBC Sections 107.2.1 and 1603.1.
Gravity System:
13. Sheet 2 shows plans and elevations for the proposed stairway on the west side of the building.
The information is not sufficient to clearly indicate the required construction. See IBC Sections
107.2.1 and 1603.1. The following comments shall be addressed:
a. The number and spacing of the platform joists and stringers are not clear.
b. The upper support for the stringers is not clear.
0 3200 Cedar Street 0 425.257.8810 0 everetteps@everettwa.gov
Everett,WA 98201 425.257.8857 fax everettwa.gov/permits
Page 3 of 5
