1110 • iv
Mr. Nathan Crawford
Plan Check Number: B1907-025, First Structural Review
August 6, 2019
c. Continuing with the previous comment, the stringers appear to potentially be supported by
a single board. The support for this board is not clear.
d. The platform appears to partially rely on support from the existing structure. The load path
shall be clarified.
e. The plans do not appear to show all connections between the framing. Proprietary products
shall be identified in the structural notes. The connection model numbers shall be specified.
The components shall be provided with a coating or made from materials that are resistant
to corrosion.
f. Calculations substantiating the design of the framing and connections shall be submitted for
review. The design shall consider the live loads per IBC Table 1607.1 Item 30.
g. Calculations substantiating the design of the stringers shall be submitted for review. The
design shall consider the reduced cross-section.
14. Sheets 3 through8 shows plans and elevations for the proposed deck and canopy on the east
side of the building. See IBC Section 1603.1. The following comments shall be addressed:
a. The drawings specify"ledgerlocks"and"headlocks"fasteners. These fasteners shall be
clarified. Proprietary products shall be identified in the structural notes. The fastener sizes
shall be specified (e.g., diameter and length, model numbers, etc.).
b. Nailing requirements for the floor and roof sheathing shall be specified.
c. The plans do not appear to show all connections between the framing. Proprietary products
shall be identified in the structural notes. The connection model numbers shall be specified.
The components shall be provided with a coating or made from materials that are resistant
to corrosion.
d. Calculations substantiating the design of the framing and connections shall be submitted for
review. The design shall consider the live loads per IBC Table 1607.1 Item 30.
Lateral System:
15. Calculations shall be submitted for review substantiating the lateral load path for the east deck
and canopy. The calculations shall evaluate all members and connections in the load path. The
structure shall be evaluated for both wind and seismic loading. Note that the load path is not a
type specified in ASCE 7-10 Table 12.2-1, and shall be established per Section 12.2.1. The roof
canopy is eccentrically-restrained along one side in the longitudinal direction, and shall be
evaluated as a rigid diaphragm per AWC SDPWS-15 Section 4.2.5.2. See IBC Sections 1604.1
and 1604.1.
16. Continuing with the previous comment, the custom bracket shown on pages 5 and 6 does not
appear to provide an adequate load path, particularly in the longitudinal direction where loading
is expected to pry the fasteners from the existing building framing. Calculations shall be
submitted for review substantiating the design of the bracket and fasteners. All portions of the
bracket shall be evaluate for induced loading. Based on a review of the framing and expected
loading conditions, the bracket and fasteners will be required to resist simultaneous triaxial
loading (i.e., gravity, lateral, and torsional loads) from the roof canopy. See IBC Sections
1604.1 and 1604.4.
a3200
Cedar Street 0 425.257.8810 0 everetteps@everettwa.gov
Everett,WA 98201 425.257.8857 fax everettwa.gov/permits
Page 4 of 5
