O 0
Structural
General:
1. Section 1/A304 shows the wall studs extending to the underside of the pre -fabricated
trusses, which do not provide out -of -plane support for the walls. Studs are required to be
continuous to floor, ceiling, or roof diaphragms per IRC Section R602.3 unless designed by
acceptable engineering practice per Section R301.1.3. Note that the maximum roof
height of approximately 14 feet exceeds the story height of 11'-7" per Section R301.3(1)
and the allowable stud height of 10 feet for 2x4 framing per Table R602.3(5).
Response: The design of the north and south walls have been revised. The gable
trusses have been changed to scissor trusses and the stud wall has been framed to the
bottom chord of the trusses. The max stud height is =
2. Section 1/A303 specifies the roof framing as pre-engineered roof trusses. See IRC Section
106.1.1. The following comments should be addressed:
a. The spacing of the trusses should be specified.
Response: (See new sheet A105) Truss spacing noted
b. The construction drawings should specify the minimum required design loads for the
trusses, including but not limited to live, snow, and wind loading criteria. See IRC
Section R802.10.1.
Response: (See new sheet A105) Load requirements noted
c. The construction drawings should specify that the trusses include bracing per IRC
Section R802.10.3.
Response: (See new sheet A105) Bracing requirements noted
3. The minimum fastening requirements should be specified. See IRC Table R602.3(1). A
schedule should be provided including but not limited to:
a. Wall studs to top and bottom plates.
b. Top plate splices.
c. Built-up headers.
d. Header to supporting framing (e.g., king and jack studs).
e. Wall corners.
f. Roof sheathing.
g. Roof framing (i.e., 2x4 outriggers per Section 1/A304).
h. Roof trusses to wall framing.
i. Roof edge nailing.
j. Truss blocking at wall supports.
Response: Fastening schedule added to set on new sheet A600.
Foundation:
4. The drawings should specify a minimum concrete strength of 3,000 psi per IRC Table
R402.2 for foundations with moderate weather exposure.
Response: Foundation Plan added to set (sheet A101) with a note specifying the
concrete strength.
