II 0
5. Please address the lateral bracing of the new horizontal HSS 5x5x3/8 beams that form
the intersection of the new braces per AISC 341-10 Sec 4b.
6. It appears that the existing columns are being used as part of the revised lateral force
resisting system configuration. Please address the strength requirements of the existing
columns per AISC 341-10 Sec D4 (1) and (2).
7. It appears that details 1/S2.3, 2/S2.3, and 1/S2.4 are receiving additional welds and
plate connections to existing gusset plates and columns. The permit calculations show
the design of the brace to the gusset plate. Please provide additional calculations that
verify that force transfer of the new braced frames can resist the new geometry and
forces provided as a result of the new OCBF. Please include connections checks such as
the gusset plate interface to the existing beams and columns, Whitmore section checks,
and etc.
8. Please provide calculations checking the existing foundations for the revised braced
frame system configuration for bearing, sliding, and uplift.
All codes cited refer to the 2015 International Building Code (IBC), 2015 International Existing
Building Code (IEBC), the 2015 International Fire Code (IFC), the 2015 International Mechanical
Code (IMC), and the 2015 Washington State Energy Code (WSEC), as amended by the State of
Washington and adopted by the City of Everett. The current IBC referenced standard for
accessible design is the 2009 "Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities" (ICC/ANSI
A117.1). Federal ADA regulations and standards may be more restrictive. These comments
address building issues only. Additional revisions or additions may be required by other
departments (such as Utilities, Traffic, Planning or Fire). All required submittals must be of
sufficient detail and information to ensure that the proposed structure will be constructed in
compliance with all adopted codes.
Sincerely,
Tony Lee
Building Official
se —
es Bronder,aa PE
Plans Examiner/Associate Engineer
F't
0 /I
CITY OF EVERETT • 3200 Cedar Street • Everett,WA 98201 • (425)257-8813 • Page 2
