ARTICLE 28 -PERSONNEL REDUCTION <br /> In the case of a personnel reduction,the employee with the least seniority shall be laid off first. Time in <br /> the Fire Department shall be given the utmost consideration. The involved employee shall have the <br /> opportunity of taking up to one(1)year's leave of absence as an option prior to a layoff No new <br /> employee shall be hired until the laid off employee or individual on leave of absence has been given the <br /> opportunity to return to work. <br /> The employee shall be given a complete physical examination when he/she is laid off,and upon recall to <br /> duty,must be reasonably able to meet the aforementioned physical standard. <br /> Any employee holding a permanent appointment above first class firefighter shall be given the <br /> opportunity to return to his original rank at the time of the reduction before anyone is promoted to that <br /> rank. <br /> 38 <br />
