at which the house drain may be discharged to the public sewer. <br /> Drains or sewers below such minimum elevation shall be lifted by <br /> artificial means. It shall be unlawful for any person to connect <br /> any basement with a City sewer without installing a backwater valve <br /> at the outlet. The effective operation of the backwater valve shall <br /> be the responsibility of the owner of the sewer or drain. <br /> Section 17. MATERIALS TO BE USED. The materials used in <br /> the construction of private sewers or drain pipes must be substantially <br /> like that used in the public sewer with which the connection is made, <br /> and no public or private sewer constructed with any cement or any tile <br /> sewer pipe shall be allowed under any buildings if such pipe is used <br /> to connect any plumbing fixtures, or used as a conductor of sewerage. <br /> The building sewer shall be cast iron soil pipe, vitrified clay sewer <br /> pipe, portland cement concrete sewer pipe, or pipe made of other <br /> suitable material approved by the City Engineer or his authorized <br /> representatives. The specifications for all pipe used shall be <br /> approved by the City Engineer or his authorized representative before <br /> such material is used. All joints shall be tight and waterproof. <br /> Section 18. RAIN WATER CONDUCTORS. All rain water con- <br /> ductors, except such conductors as are connected to tanks or cisterns <br /> for domestic use, shall be connected with the public sewer unless <br /> the public sewer is a sanitary sewer only. When rain water leaders <br /> are connected to the drainage system they shall be connected to the <br /> main horizontal house drain and shall be properly trapped and vented. <br /> Drain from roof and/or areas shall be of the capacity in accordance <br /> with square footage prescribed in the following tables: <br /> Diameter (in inches) Sq. ft. of area <br /> 2 1050 <br /> 3 3150 <br /> 4 6450 <br /> 5 10800 <br /> 6 18000 <br /> 8 35700 <br /> 10 58800 <br /> 12 95400 <br />
