" . 4. <br /> • 4 <br /> t • <br /> Section 2: That Section 18 of Ordinance No. 3546 is <br /> hereby amended to read as follows : <br /> Section 18: CONNECTIONS, HOW MADE <br /> All connections with public sewers or drains shall be <br /> made in a workmanlike manner, to the "Y" connection <br /> of standpipe or main, or even with the inside surface <br /> of the sewer when permission has been granted by the <br /> City Engineer to tap. Side sewer lateral connections <br /> to manholes shall be made at the manhole base, and <br /> laterals having an elevation at the manhole of three feet <br /> (3 ' ) or more above the base elevation shall be made by <br /> drop connection approved by the City Engineer. Where <br /> connecting "Y" has not been left, or in case the <br /> inspector may deem best the person making connection <br /> shall remove a joint of the sewer pipe and insert in its <br /> place a "Y" properly placed and securely cemented, before <br /> making connections therewith, and where a "Y" has been <br /> left the connection shall be made without damaging or <br /> breaking the same . Standpipe connections to upright <br /> "Y" or "T" of the main sewer pipe or lateral shall be <br /> made through 1/8 bends. The upright "Y" or "T" con- <br /> nection shall be encased in a concrete block on both <br /> sides of main sewer pipe from base of main sewer pipe <br /> to a solid supporting of the bell of upright "Y" or "T" . <br /> A 1/8 bend shall be placed directly upon the upright <br /> or "T" and connection brought directly to the solid <br /> sidewall of sewer trench and changed to vertical by use <br /> of a 1/8 bend at base of riser. 1/8 bends and riser <br /> shall be solidly supported with a continuation of con- <br /> crete block supporting the bell of upright "Y" or "T" . <br /> Bell holes or recesses for hubs or couplings shall be <br /> provided in sidewall of sewer trench. All excavations <br /> made in any street or alley shall be protected and <br /> guarded by said contractor, both by day and night, with <br /> the proper display of signals and lights, and the said <br /> contractor: shall be responsible upon his bond for all <br /> accidents caused by negligence in this respect. The <br /> street must be opened and the paving or planking and earth <br /> deposited in a manner that will occasion the least in- <br /> convenience to the public, and to provide for a free <br /> passage along the gutter. One half of the street must be <br /> kept clear for the passage of vehicles, and bridgeways <br /> must be provided on sidewalks for foot passengers. In <br /> refilling the trench the earth must be deposited in <br /> layers of not more than six inches (6" ) in depth and must <br /> be well rammed. Puddling or water flooding for consolidat- <br /> ing the backfill may be used only if approved by the City <br /> Engineer. In clay soil the addition of water shall be <br /> limited only to that needed for increasing the density <br /> of the backfill material. As soon as any such sewer or <br /> drain is completed the applicant shall immediately re- <br /> store and maintain all streets, sidewalks, parking strips <br /> and other public areas disturbed or altered in the course <br /> of any side sewer or drainage work to the original <br /> surface condition and, in the event the applicant fails <br /> to immediately restore the area to its original condition <br /> the City Engineer shall make such restoration and charge <br /> the cost thereof to the applicant who shall, upon <br /> receiving written notice of the amount, make immediate <br /> payments thereof to the City Treasurer.
