necessary in cases of excavations for building purposes, or for <br /> drainage of swails and low lots. Provided, however, that all <br /> laundries, livery stables, packing houses, restaurants and <br /> butcher shops now connected or which may hereafter be connected <br /> with any public sewer shall be provided with a permanent catch <br /> basin with the capacity of at least one hundred gallons, and all <br /> catch basins placed under buildings must have a back water valve <br /> placed in waste pipe to prevent overflowing in case of stoppage <br /> of sewer, and must also be properly trapped and vented. <br /> Section 8: RAIN WATER CONDUCTORS <br /> All rainwater conductors, except such conductors as are <br /> connected to tanks or cisterns for domestic use, shall be con- <br /> nected with the public sewer unless the public sewer is a <br /> sanitary sewer only. When rainwater leaders are connected to the <br /> drainage system they shall be connected to the main horizontal <br /> house drain and shall be properly trapped and vented. Drain <br /> from roof and/or areas shall be of the capacity in accordance <br /> with square footage prescribed in the following tables: <br /> Diameter (in inches) Sq. ft. of area <br /> 2 1050 <br /> 3 3150 <br /> 4 6450 <br /> 5 10800 <br /> 6 18000 <br /> 8 35700 <br /> 10 58800 <br /> 12 95400 <br /> Section 9: WHO MAY MAKE CONNECTIONS <br /> Persons skilled in the drainage of houses and other <br /> premises and in the construction of sewers may be licensed to <br /> connect private drains with public sewers and to make repairs in <br /> such connection under the conditions prescribed in this ordinance. <br /> Section 10: APPLICATION, QUALIFICATIONS FOR, <br /> AND TERM OF LICENSE <br /> Any person desiring such license shall make application <br /> to the Commissioner of Public, Works of the City of Everett, and <br /> shall file at the same time a satisfactory certificate, signed <br /> by at least two (2) responsible contractors, plumbers, or builders, <br /> or one of each, to the effect that the said applicant is known to <br /> them as a reliable person, skilled in the business and qualified <br /> to receive a license to perform said work; such license shall <br /> continue for the period of one year unless sooner revoked by the <br /> Commissioner of Public Works. <br /> Section 11: LICENSE FEE, AMOUNT AND CONDITION <br /> OF BOND REQUIRED <br /> At the time of issuing a license the person or persons <br /> receiving the same shall file in the office of the City Clerk a <br /> bond in the sum of Three Thousand Dollars ($3,000.00) with one or <br /> more responsible sureties to be approved by the Commissioner of <br /> Public Works of said city, conditioned that he, or they, will <br /> indemnify and save harmless the City of Everett from all suits, <br /> accidents and damages consequent therefrom, for or by reason of <br /> any opening in said street, avenue, alley or highway, and that he <br /> or they will pay to said city any and all damages to such sewers <br /> as shall result from carelessness or want of skill in him or <br /> them, or those in his or their employ, in making any connection <br /> with any public or private sewer which he or they may at any <br /> -3- <br />
