• <br /> • <br /> Section 31: HORN AND WARNINCT' DEVICES. Jlivery motor <br /> vehicle shall be equipped with a suitable horn, which shall be sounded <br /> at any time when such vehicle is approaching a condition of danger <br /> or where in the exercise of due care warning should be made or at <br /> such tines and under such conditions as required by law. It shall <br /> , be unlawful for any motor vehicle to be equipped with any gong, siren <br /> or whistle unless such vehicle is used as an ambulance or is operated <br /> iby any police department, fire department, sheriff' s office or state <br /> patrol, or is otnerviise an authorized emergency vehicle, or is a <br /> vehicle of the state necessary for use upon the public highways and <br /> , which by reason of its necessary operation presents a danger to <br /> Ltraffic upon the public highway or requires the benefit of the right <br /> of way over other traffic. <br /> Any gong, siren or whistle attached to any motor vehicle, <br /> oexcept as permitted in this section, shall be prima facie evidence <br /> Oof the unlawful use of such gong, siren or whistle. <br /> The horn upon any vehicle shall be capable of emitting <br /> sound audible under normal conditions at a distance of not less than <br /> two hundred (200) feet and the gong, siren or whistle upon any <br /> hauthorizea emergency vehicle shall be capable of emitting sound <br /> audible under normal conditions at a distance of not less than five <br /> qhundred (500) feet. No unusually loud horn shall be permitted on <br /> any vehicle other than an authorized emergency vehicle. <br /> All unnecessarily long or loud blowing of horns or <br /> ringing of bells is prohibited. <br /> Section 32: SPEEDOIETER. It shall be unlawful to operate <br /> any motor vehicle without having attached to such vehicle in a place <br /> " conspicuous to the operator thereof, a speedometer which accurately <br /> inaicates at all times the speed at which such vehicle is being <br /> hoperated. <br /> Section 33: REAR iJi iaIRh0R. very owner or operator <br /> of any motor vehicle used upon any public highway shall equip such <br /> Lvehicle with a mirror or other device to enable the operator thereof <br /> vto have at all times clear and unobstructed view to the rear of such <br /> gvehicle sufficient to enable him at all ti es to observe conditions <br /> ' existing to the rear of such vehicle within a distance of not 4. ss <br /> than two hundred (200) feet. <br /> Section 34: ALIDS ,IELD 61IPES. It shall be unlawful <br /> for any person to operate any motor vehicle not equipped with a <br /> device in good working order for cleaning the exterior portion of <br /> , the windshield over a sufficient area thereof and in a satisfactory <br /> manner to afford such operator a clear view ahead, which device shall <br /> be controlled and operated by the operator of such motor vehicle at <br /> all times when from rain, snow or other causes the condition of the <br /> exterior portion of the windshield may become such that said operators <br /> , view may become impaired. It shall be unlawful for any person to <br /> operate any new motor vehicle first sold or delivered after January 1, <br /> 1938 which is not equipped with such device or devices in good <br /> working order capable of cleaning the windshield thereof over two <br /> separate arcs, one each on the left and right side of the windshield, <br /> each capable of cleaning a surface of not less than one hundred <br /> twenty (120) square inches, or other device or devices capable of <br /> accomplishing sbstantially the same result. <br /> Section 35: ivilleFLER. It shall be unlwful for any person, <br /> to operate a motor vehicle which shall not at all times be equipped <br /> with a muffler upon the exhaust thereof in good working order and in <br /> constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise and it shall <br /> be unlawful for any person operating any motor vehicle to use a cut- <br /> out, by-pass, or similar muffler elimination appliance. <br /> -15- <br />
